In this technical position, you will apply hydrogeological principles to assess the effects of coal and noncoal underground and surface mining operations, preparation plants, and coal refuse disposal sites on water resources in Pennsylvania's anthracite region. Your responsibilities will include gathering, organizing, and analyzing hydrogeological data such as drill logs, well logs, water level measurements, geophysical surveys, and water quality samples. You will review mining permit applications for both surface and underground operations to verify the accuracy of the information provided and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Additionally, you will prepare deficiency letters citing regulatory issues for applicants, engage in correspondence with applicants and consultants as needed, conduct field assessments of proposed mining areas, and provide recommendations to your supervisor regarding permitting decisions. You will also prepare cumulative hydrologic impact assessments (CHIA) for new mining permit applications and submit your findings and recommendations to your supervisor, while reviewing bond calculations related to coal and noncoal permits to confirm that all affected areas are adequately bonded.Interested in learning more? Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pottsville.

Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:This position requires possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
