Research TechnicianThe University of Pittsburgh's Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Research Technician. The Research Technician will be engaged in studying bacterial metabolism and biofilm formation in vitro and in tissue samples. Ideally, the successful candidate will be familiar with basic bacteriology techniques and with laboratory maintenance tasks such as pouring plates, making solutions, and handling glassware. Candidates familiar with microscopy and with analyzing microscopy data are particularly encouraged to apply. Strong computer and basic statistical skills are important, as is the ability to analyze, organize, interpret, and present data both verbally and in writing. Some experience in a laboratory, specifically with molecular biology, is desired. Equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for degree requirement. This position is located at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment. Also, a current TB test will be required as a condition of employment. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.Essential Functions-Performs a variety of laboratory experiments such as basic bacteriology culturing, molecular techniques, and related technical functions, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis. Ensures conformity to specifications.-Prepares reagents and media.-Analyzes experimental data and interprets results; compiles results; writes reports and summaries of findings.-Maintains and oversees specimen inventory and ordering. Maintains lab and chemical inventory.-Keeps detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books.-Prepares data, graphs, tables, and charts to document experimental results for publication.-Writes manuscripts and grant proposals; performs literature searches; summarizes findings for reports and written documentations.-Develops expert recommendations and problem resolutions to improve research efforts.-Serves as Safety Officer as directed and/or needed.Physical EffortLight Maximum lifting of up to 20 lbs., with frequent lifting/carrying of up to 10 lbs. or a negligible amount.
