Our used bookstore opened recently on Germantown Avenue. It's challenging to get people to come to an ungentrified area to browse for books. I have certain strategies to try to drum up business, but I don't have time to do a lot. I'm looking for someone who would be willing to go to where people are and promote the store. That would include anything from putting flyers and posters around in corner stores to setting up a little display outside the North Philly Subway stop during rush hours. The right person can't be shy, has to be comfortable and streetsmart in North Philly, and it would help if they knew something about books, music and movies.
It's going to be a part time, ad hoc, as needed gig. We'll plan out some strategies, try them out and mold the campaigns as we go along. Right now the store is barely making rent, but if a candidate has a sense for this, it could turn into a regular job if any of these campaigns work out, especially because one of our immediate goals is to afford to hire someone to give us a few days off in the store.
