The Research Assistant will work with the Principal Investigators, Research Lab Director, Research Scientists, Post-Doctoral Fellows, Research Assistants, Senior Research Technicians, Graduate Students, and other laboratory staff. Importantly, the Research Technician will be part of an established "in vivo team" that collaboratively conducts studies and provides coverage for each other as necessary. The Research Assistant must document all required preclinical testing studies of novel molecularly targeted agents in laboratory mouse models bearing Patient-Derived Xenografts or Allografts as part of ThePediatric PreclinicalIn VivoTesting (PIVOT) consortium (https://preclinicalpivot.org/) and other NIH funded activities.S/he must be able to and willing to learn/perfect standard techniques as well as:

Take responsibility for conducting a set of Pediatric PreclinicalIn VivoTesting (PIVOT) Consortium mouse trials in a state-of-the-art rodent barrier facility with an ability to maintain the "clean" or specific Pathogen Free (SPF) environment (under supervision of Principal Investigators, Lab Director and with the help of Research Assistants and senior laboratory staff). Have experience with handling mice and willingness to learn mouse model experiments consisting of survival surgery tumor implantation procedures, subcutaneous injections, oral gavage, intraperitoneal injections, intravenous tail vein injections, blood collections, tumor tissue and organ collections, etc. Work independently on mouse irradiation studies after initial training in procedures and equipment. Carefully maintain, passage and re-stock the patient-derived xenografts used to perform most of the in vivo work. Maintain cage cards, animal histories, and other records as required. Carefully follow laboratory safety procedures and perform experiments in compliance with research safety standards. Practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods Complete assigned training on standard operating procedures pertaining to job functions. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.A successful applicant will be able to work independently after the initial training and be self-directed while providing help to more junior lab personnel. It will be required to consistently exercise discretion and judgment in the execution and interpretation of experiments, and data analysis.What you will do

Performs routine tests / experiments under the direction of principal investigator, supervisor or other designee

Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed

Records and checks experiments/ results for completeness and accuracy

Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks

Performs tasks that require familiarity with fundamental techniques and lab equipment

May assist with planning specific research pro ocols and procedures

Maintains office, lab area, solutions, reagents, supplies and equipment, disposes of specimens, media and other materials (using appropriate procedures)

Assists in care and maintenance of lab equipment

May coordinate schedules of tests and procedures

Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques

Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner

Compiles and helps analyze data, prepares charts, graphs, and results of studies as directed

Conducts literary searches as directed

Education Qualifications

High School Diploma / GED Required

Associate's Degree Preferred

Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications

At least one (1) year of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience Required

At least two (2) years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience Preferred

Skills and Abilities

Intermediate understanding of lab procedures, protocols, and equipment.

Basic exposure to lab specific experiments / techniques and scientific analysis
