Summary The primary purpose of the position is to perform laboring duties that require moderately heavy physical effort and may involve the use of common hand tools and power equipment. In order to accomplish their duties the incumbent must also operate light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc…) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park. Responsibilities Operates light duty motor vehicles such as pickup trucks, panel trucks, vans, and sedans, and machinery such as lawn mowers, brush chippers, and snow blowers. Operates power tools such as chain saws, pole saws, circular saws, drills, string trimmers, leaf blowers, and jack hammers. Perform operator-level checks and maintenance (fluids, tire pressure, blade sharpening) on vehicles, equipment, and power and hand tools. Lifts and moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds and carries objects weighing between 80 and 100 pounds. Performs janitorial tasks that include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and applying disinfectant chemicals. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Vehicle Operation: You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle. Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. Probationary Period: If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another. Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance. Working Conditions: Outside work is usually performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Indoor work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area. Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
