The operating and business models that have served healthcare systems well for many years are showing signs of strain. Demand for services outstripping supply, predicted shortages of healthcare workers, rising rates of burnout, and shrinking operating margins are forcing healthcare systems to rethink how they organize and deliver healthcare. The Innovation Program Manager leads the Innovation Catalyst Program, a new program that uses design thinking methodology to support clinical and operational teams in designing new and innovative ways of doing our work and providing care for patients and families.
This role is responsible for providing coordination, project, and personnel management for the Innovation Catalyst Program, ultimately driving transformative change within the organization. This role will report to the Director of Human Factors and Systems Design and work directly with Innovation Catalyst Program (ICP) leadership as well as collaborate with other leaders/team members within CHQA, DTS, and across the enterprise. Together they will set the strategic and operational vision for the program. This role is a working manager role and will also carry a project load in addition to leadership responsibilities.This is a hybrid position. Candidate should be expected to work three days a week onsite out of the Roberts Center for Pediatric Research.What you will do
Program Management/People Management
Responsible for maintaining the overall portfolio of work and collaboratively driving the innovation catalyst agenda at CHOP, including setting the vision for the Innovation Catalyst Program
Coordinates all process pertaining to intake, steering committee review, and analysis of innovation queue
Evaluate and prioritize project ideas based on strategic fit, feasibility, and potential impact
Coordinate integration of services between various support teams/services supporting ICP projects
Identify and mitigate risks associated with projects
Recruiting, coaching, development and supervision of competent team members, efficient systems and a satisfied workforce
Manage efforts of the innovation advisors supporting projects through direct supervision, coaching or advice as appropriate for projects they are supporting
Relationship Building
Represent ICP in internal committees as needed to promote culture of innovation
Provide thought partnership on ICP programs and services across the enterprise
Foster relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the organization to build momentum and support for innovation initiatives
Stay up to date of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for innovation and disruption
Contribute to the development of an outreach and marketing strategy in partnership with Director of HF and the Innovation Education and Consulting Lead
Program Evaluation, Continuous Improvement
Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of the program. Analyze data and provide regular updates to stakeholders
Design and develop assessment strategies and tools to evaluate program results and measure business impact
Ongoing evaluation of program with a focus on improving processes to increase efficiency and reduce redundancy inclusive of intake, prioritization and publication
Innovation Methods Education, Training
Partner with Innovation Education and Consulting Lead on the design and execution of the education program as well as the evaluation process for the program
Build capability and teach design thinking to project teams as well as future expansion of education program
Serve as a consultant and content expert on design thinking
Drive cultural change by fostering a climate of experimentation and continuous learning
Education Qualifications
Master's Degree Business Administration, Health Administration, Engineering, Design or similar field of study Required
Experience Qualifications
At least five (5) years related experience working a healthcare environment Required
At least three (3) years program coordinator/manager in large complex program Preferred
At least three (3) years managerial/supervisory role in a hospital/healthcare setting Preferred
At least three (3) years Demonstrating application of design thinking and human centered design to achieve impactful results Preferred.

Experience using and knowledge of design thinking frameworks with expectation to gain knowledge through taking courses and obtaining certification if applicable, within agreed timeframe upon hire (Required proficiency)

Experience with design thinking, lean startup methodology, and other innovation frameworks (Preferred proficiency)
Web Development and User Experience (UX) expertise (Preferred proficiency)
Change management expertise with the ability to navigate through ambiguity and resistance to change (Required proficiency)
Knowledge of emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, IoT, etc., and their applications in business (Preferred proficiency)
