$16.00/HRFood Technician Position SummaryThe Food Technician/Trainer reports to the Long-Term Structured Residences (LTSR) Program Director and/or LTSR Program Director Assistant. The Food Technician/Trainer will be responsible for overseeing planning, ordering, and cooking meals for clients within the LTSR Program. The Food Technician/trainer works from a recovery framework within the team providing assistance in building cooking skills, nutritional meal plan education, cultural competence, and trauma informed care to help individuals obtain their recovery goals. Preparation of residents' meals, ensuring that each resident is served a balanced and nutritional diet. Partnering with nursing staff and individuals to ensure that nutritious meals are prepared and planned, and those individual dietary guidelines are considered and followed. Maintaining proper documentation of special diets.Food Technician Duties and Responsibilities

Preparation of weekly menus at least one week in advance for review by Nurse Manager. Posting of menu within the LTSR. Maintenance of menu file.

Training individuals in nutrition; menu planning; food preparation; appropriate storage of food and supplies; safety standards throughout all food preparation and storage areas; food shopping; inventory of food and supplies and orders food and supplies in sufficient quantities for weekly meals, etc. Such training will occur in both group and individual settings. Such skills will be necessary as individuals move on to less restrictive settings.

Maintenance of a clean and safe kitchen, kitchen appliances, and storage areas. Wet mopping kitchen floor at the end of each shift worked.

Practice safe food handling and food safety practices, i.e., proper sanitation, cleanliness, wrapping and freezing and defrosting of food items, handling of leftovers (labeling with dates and contents), use of sharp utensils, etc.

Ordering and shopping for food supplies in partnership with individuals. Dating all incoming food supplies, maintenance of food inventories.

Ensuring that all food purchasing is in compliance with budgetary provisions. Providing Director and Nurse a list of all goods intended for purchase for approval.

Partnering with individuals to serve meals, set tables, dismantle tables, and clean up after meals.

Limit interactions with clients to above job responsibilities in the following manner: serving and/or supervising clients in the kitchen if determined to be appropriate by team leader or director, adhering to community rules of the program, i.e., not borrowing or lending money to clients, refraining from interactions with clients during groups and fraternizing, and using office equipment.

Ensure continued training as applicable to job in the following areas: Food safety and handling, fire safety, menu planning, dietary needs, meal preparation, blood borne pathogens, etc.

Preparing tray service for residents who are unable to be served in the dining room for any reason.

Ensuring that all kitchen knives and other potentially dangerous appliances are always secured when not in use.

Other duties reasonable and related to this position as directed by related supervisors.

Food Technician Physical Requirements

Continuous walking, sitting, standing, bending over, and occasionally carrying, pulling, and pushing items Ability to walk stairways.

Lift a minimum of 30 pounds.

ANYTHING THAT APPEARS OR FEELS IN EXCESS OF THIS ALWAYS ASK FOR ASSISTANCE.

Ability to physically intervene with eloping or aggressive clients when needed.

Visual requirements: normal vision requirements.

Hearing equirements: able to hear normal conversation in person and on the phone.

Communication requirements: able to communicate without assistance from another person (use of assistive communication devices permissible).

Physical examination and disease screening may be required per state and local requirements.

Exposure to aggressive behavior - including biting, hitting, thrown objects, pinching.

Most work is completed indoors.

RequirementsEducation, Employment and Credential Requirements

High School Diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma and minimal related experience or recent graduate of related cooking/vocational program

Cooking experience in a group setting of 20 or more people preferred.

Safe Serve Certificate

Valid PA State Criminal, FBI (based on residency outside of PA), Child Abuse clearances.

Clearances must be updated every 3 years per COMHAR policy.

Valid driver's license required. (Must be able to move about COMHAR service areas throughout the day to provide appropriate oversight and coordination and meet job duties as needed and required.)

Physical examination including Hep B screening & TB test.

Proficient with office software

CPR w/AED & First Aid certification.
