The Nutrition Services Food Services Worker is responsible for performing any of the following: delivering and collecting floor nourishments and patient trays to/from assigned floors; inventory, restocking, and cleaning floor kitchens; serving on tray assembly line; distributing and retrieving patient menus; assisting patients filling out menus. Participates in meal rounds. Assists supervisor in diet office answering phones. Also, ensure that the patient and his nutritional needs are met in an effective and efficient manner of service.What you will do

Arrive on time and prepared to begin working.

Maintain floor kitchen with well stocked floor supplies and keep the area neat, clean and sanitary.

On assigned unit, rotate and inventory floor supplies using appropriate requisition with par levels.

Discard opened unlabeled containers, and outdated food and beverage.

Damp wipe counter tops and cabinets surfaces daily.

Develop working relationship with housekeeping to keep kitchens looking neat, clean, and orderly throughout day.

In main kitchen/storeroom area, obtain floor supplies needed to maintain par level on assigned unit. Label and date all perishable supplies. Put supplies on top of clean kitchen cart. Sign and date completed requisition and turn into diet office. Deliver supplies to assigned floor kitchen prior to service of lunch for patients.

Provide patients with quality meal service.

Set-up and serve patient trays in accordance with established schedule and procedures.

Assist in checking tray for accuracy, temperature, and appearance.

Deliver tray carts to assigned floors. Inform nursing station when trays are ready to be passed.

Pass trays to patient's room or bedside, greeting each in a friendly manner and checking name on bed against name of menu.

After tray distribution, begin meal visitation to ensure that patients are enjoying meals and have everything they desire.

Observe and report any unnecessary trays being sent.

Collect dirty trays from patients and place in tray carts. Return tray carts to dish room.

At all times keep tray cart neat and clean.

Deliver patient snacks as necessary.

Provide patients with the opportunity to choose their meal preferences by making appropriate menus available to them.

Obtain patient menus and patient diet list from diet office.

Pass menus and assist patients as needed with menu selections.

Check each menu for proper placement of name, room and bed number. Use diet list to check off menus received and to note comments.

Collect menus from patients and return same to diet office in an efficient manner.

Inform supervisor of transfer, discharges, new admissions and special patient requests.

Respond to patient, visitor, and Hospital personnel requests and concerns.

Maintain a professional and polite demeanor at all times.

Respond to requests and concer s as soon as you are notified in a helpful manner.

Inform supervisors of any requests you cannot complete or have questions or concerns.

Inform the concerned parts when the task is completed.

Furnish parents/visitors and hospital personnel with Patient Service Manager's telephone extension or beeper if they wish to speak to directly with management & inform Patient Service Manager of such.

Practice safe work procedures.

Wear department uniform at all times; wear personal protective gear as necessary.

Report accidents immediately.

Practice safe lifting techniques.

Practice proper equipment handling.

Maintain established department policy for safety, environmental and infection control.

Detect and report faulty or defective supplies or equipment.

Practice safe food handling procedures.

Attend meetings as required, in services, and participate on committees as directed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.Education Qualifications

High School Diploma / GED RequiredSkills and Abilities

Good communication/interpersonal skills.

Must be able to read English with understanding and write English legibly.

Must be able to relate to patients, parents, relatives, and hospital and dietary personnel in a helpful, service oriented manner.

Must be able to lift, deliver, and pick up an average of sixty (60) patient trays twice per day within a predetermined time span.

Must be able to communicate effectively with Registered Dietitians, hospital personnel, and other Food and Nutrition Services personnel in order to provide the best possible nutritional care for patients.To carry out its mission, CHOP is committed to supporting the health of our patients, families, workforce, and global community.
