Are you living your life's work?Job Title: PRN Athletic TrainerDepartment: Orthopaedic Sports MedicineLocation: Penn Sports Medicine Center Weightman Hall - 235 South 33rd StEntity: CPUPHours: Majority of shifts will vary between mornings and afternoons M-F and include occasional weekend or evening coverage.Job Summary:Primarily responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of student-athletes and related illness at events assigned in coordination with the Lead Athletic Trainer. Schools and event locations will commonly be within the Philadelphia School District. There will be additional opportunities to assist in either the University of Pennsylvania Club Sport program or local private school level.Accountabilities

Care and prevention of athletic injuries in the clinical setting.

Standard patient care: room patients, collect medical history.

Answer phone calls, complete patient forms, and acquire authorizations.

Provide direct support to the physicians in minor procedures performed in office and joint aspirations/injections.

Provide wound care, stitch removal, and dressing changes.

Prepare clinics, update charts, and coordinate patient referrals.

DME fitting, casting patients and removal of casts.

Stock/Clean rooms daily and order supplies/medications as needed.

Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.

Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Conduct an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness to provide emergency or continued care, and to determine whether they should be referred to physicians for definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Care for athletic injuries using physical therapy equipment, techniques, and medication.

Evaluate athletes' readiness to play and provide participation clearances when necessary and warranted.

Apply protective or injury preventative devices such as tape, bandages or braces to body parts such as ankles, fingers, or wrists.

Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to coaches and physicians.

Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.

Communicate injury and necessary follow up to parent/guardian of injured athlete or student.

Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programs.

Travel with athletic teams to be available at sporting events as necessary.

Game and event assignments will be based on mutual agreement between the PRN Athletic Trainer and the Lead Athletic Trainer

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in athletic training from a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Program at a 4-year college or university (Required)

ATC Licensed in the State of Pennsylvania (Required)

Board of Certification (BOC) (Required)

BLS / CPR, as a healthcare provider as per the American Heart Association (Required)

Master's Degree from a CAATE accredited Master’s Program (Preferred)
