The Shell Polymers Plant is a world-scale petrochemical plant in Western Pennsylvania that upgrades locally produced ethane from Marcellus and Utica shale formations gas production to make polyethylene. The petrochemical complex consists of a world-scale Ethane Cracker Unit (ECU), multiple polyethylene (PE) units, PE logistics and supporting OSBL (utilities, general facilities, storage, and hydrocarbon logistics). The site is now growing to support Start-Up and Run & Maintain activities in preparation for full operation.The Site is in the Pittsburgh, PA area (Monaca, PA). Not only are we building a world-class asset, but we’re also building a world-class asset organization. This position is critical to the mission of team, and this will promise to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.What’s the roleAs an Electrical Engineer you will support run and maintain operations at the Shell Polymer’s Site. Duties include quality assurance activities, projects, turnaround support, compliance with electrical safety requirements, maintaining electrical equipment files, training, development/updating of procedures, MOC support, etc. You will provide technical support to operations, and maintenance for electrical equipment. The individual works to improve equipment reliability by providing the Quality Assurance role for Electrical Equipment and performing investigation of failures, determination of root causes, and development of corrective action plans. You will focus on identifying long-term electrical reliability problems and solutions that will minimize failures. Other duties include troubleshooting, preventative maintenance development, history tracking, spare parts identification, and Operations interface / training.As an Electrical Engineer, you will also serve as the Electrical discipline focal point for assigned Site projects and provides electrical technical assurance during all phases of a project. This includes design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, startup, and closeout. Your responsibilities will be accomplished through the personal application of technical skills and the coordination and involvement of the appropriate technical resources available on site, through Shell P&T, and 3rd party engineering services.Though some limited design work might occasionally be undertaken, it is not intended that this role will provide detailed engineering design. The individual in this role will however be expected to provide detailed design input in terms of required standards, specifications and materials of construction, and will further provide review, comment and overview of the detail design provided by others. This individual will also be expected to specify required quality control and quality assurance hold points and examinations, and to provide review, comment and overview of vendor, fabricator, and constructor quality control programs.Accountabilities:

Provide technical support to operations, engineering, and maintenance in the areas of electrical equipment utilization, operation, and maintenance

Support activities meeting the objectives of operating areas

Have a strong ownership of the equipment in your area of responsibility

Prioritize efforts placing emphasis on activities which improve the safety, environmental, and performance of electrical equipment, improve cost effectiveness of individual repairs, and improve operability of electrical equipment. Health and Safety

Take leadership in assuring that electrical activities are performed safely and in accordance with the SPM safety policies

Provide input into SPM safety and maintenance procedures

Be knowledgeable of and audit compliance to SPM Safety and Maintenance Procedures and OSHA regulations

Perform and document NFPA 70E audits

Provide guidance for safe work practices and personal protective equipment (PPE) used by crafts and contractors

Investigate electrical incidents and near misses, perform root cause analysis, write and issue reports, and implement action items as necessary

Ensure proper documentation of special operating and maintenance instructions associated with electrical equipment

Be knowledgeable of the following: National Electric Code, National Electric Safety Code, NFPA Codes, API Documents, IEEE documents and whitepapers, OSHA Laws-Develop and/or review job hazards analysis for electrical tasks related to protecting personnel

Be familiar with area classification methods and requirements according to NEC, API, and NFPA

Provide input to resolution of area classification issues such as determining suitability of equipment for the area and updating area classification drawings

Be knowledgeable of requirements for usage and maintenance of PPE used in electrical work such as gloves, arc flash clothing, insulating blankets, and test equipment

Work with onsite safety equipment vendor to ensure that insulated electrical PPE is tested and maintained as per OSHA, NFPA 70E, and Shell Polymers standards

Provide instructions to personnel regarding the safe operation of electrical equipment. Process Safety Management-Awareness of and compliance with Process Safety initiatives

Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews

Be aware of and ensure proper disposal of environmental sensitive components and materials in electrical equipment such as mercury switches, batteries, and lighting components

Compliance with all Shell Polymers and EPA environmental standards and procedures

Maintain Unit Hardware and Documentation

Support implementation of electrical Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) program

Take leadership in developing, planning, and executing electrical equipment turnarounds

Identify root cause and recommend upgrade solutions to systemic hardware problems

Troubleshoot electrical hardware problems

Maintain equipment files

Track electrical equipment reliability in the assigned area and communicate progress

Provide guidance for proper application of electrical equipment and components

Ensure testing for electrical equipment is comprehensive and current, test results are within limits and a long term and/or short-term plan is in place to address deficiencies in electrical equipment

Ensure preventative maintenance program procedures are up to date

Provide technical support for equipment including 5 kV – 138KV Power Distribution Systems with solid-state computer-based motor protection and protective relaying, Synchronous Motors and Controls, Electric Heat Tracing Systems, & Cathodic Protection

Maintain close contact with Production Unit personnel

Assist in the execution of minor projects

Provide training to crafts and operators on electrical equipment and electrical related topics

Assure that all Health, Safety, and Environmental Training specified by regulatory agencies and the company is up to date

Participate in the Electrical Department goals and objective process

What we need from you

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Electrical Engineering

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required

Strong organizational & communication skills (written & verbal)

Strong interpersonal skills and can work well with people at all levels in the organization

Possess excellent technical, trouble-shooting, and analytical skills

Has working knowledge of Industry Electrical Codes

Actively strives to demonstrate personal behaviors consistent with Shell Behaviors

Experience with root-cause analysis is beneficial

Formal electrical training would be considered a plus

Working knowledge in the application of Condition Monitoring techniques (i.e. Infrared Temperature monitoring, oil analysis of Transformers, etc.

Proficient in Microsoft suite applications

Understands work processes and metrics

The base salary range for this position is $122, 000 – $182, 000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan.
