DescriptionPerforms magnetic resonance exams to produce images of various anatomical parts and systems for diagnostic purposes as directed by radiologist. Regular, consistent, on-site, and timely attendance.

Collects pertinent data about the patient and the procedure.

a. Reconfirms the patient's identification and verifies the physician's order. b. Assures that the proper screening protocol is completed prior to patient entering scan room.

Provides information to patient about the procedure.

a. Verifies the patient has consented to the procedure and answers any questions. b. Provides accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate time and at a level the patient can understand

Analyzes the information obtained during the assessment phase and determines optimal imaging parameters per diagnosis.

a. Selects appropriate imaging coil and immobilization devices when needed b. Determines appropriate type of contrast to be administered. c. Properly positions patient in the MRI unit relative to the type of exam being performed. d. Provides hearing protection to the patient.

Administers contrast agents according to established guidelines.

a. Obtains written consent prior to IV contrast administration. b. Monitors patient during exam for adverse reaction to contrast media. c. Maintains constant communication with patient during procedure. d. Completes medication reconciliation documentation according to department guidelines.e. Using sterile techniques preps site and starts I.V. when applicable.

Obtains optimum images during scan.

a. Reformats images as needed to better visualize anatomy or pathology according to established guidelines. b. Sends images to PACS for interpretation by radiologist.

Documents information about patient care, exam and patient history in appropriate record.

a. Verifies correct order is entered into RIS. b. Documents appropriate patient history into PACS system. c. Documents any exceptions from the established guidelines. d. Scans appropriate documents into PACS system. e. Completes MRI screening form. f. Completes medication reconciliation documentation per department policy.

Facilitates correspondence with all departments to assure procedures are done in a timely manner.

a. Works with Centralized Scheduling, nursing units, and ER to accommodate STAT or ASAP orders. b. Response to emergency call per department procedures.

Maintains equipment and workstation in optimum condition.

a. Performs daily QC on MRI equipment. b. Assures adequate patient care and office supplies are maintained. c. Reports equipment malfunction to service provider.

Implements downtime procedures as necessary.

a. Coordinates rescheduling of patients during equipment downtime. b. Initiates established downtime procedures during HIS/RIS and PACS downtime.

Participates in on-going MRI safety training
