About Us:

The Homestead School (HS) is a PA Licensed Family Child Care home located on a 25-acre family farm with gardens, forest and livestock in southern Chester County, PA. At our school we offer children a nature-based, home-style learning setting and seek to develop their natural interests and motivation through nature, animals, and healthy lifestyles.

Position Overview:

The Homestead School is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic full-time Lead Teacher to plan and implement an ongoing program of activities that promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child. The ideal candidate will be passionate about facilitating individualized learning in a nature-based setting.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Previous teaching or assistant teaching position in a licensed early childhood program preferred.

Knowledgeable and passionate about Montessori teaching methods; Montessori accreditation a plus.

Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, safety, and potential emergency situations.

Loves to create an environment for kids to develop intrinsic motivation and interests at their own pace.

Respects individuality of each child

Enjoys spending time outdoors with children, including in imperfect weather.

Creates an environment of freedom within limits for children to explore, learn and grow.

Self-starter eager to build curriculum and grow with a new school offering alternate education approach that emphases teachers as guides that promote individual holistic learning.

Must meet basic requirements of local child care regulatory agency.

Primary Responsibilities:

Is responsible for the overall supervision and daily class functions of a group of children.

Observes all rules and regulations at the HS and the local, state or national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety and care of children.

Assesses each child's developmental needs on an ongoing basis.

Designs and implements lesson plans and daily classroom schedule in accordance with the HS curriculum and programming.

Plans with a member of the Leadership Team the parent-teacher conferences and student evaluations.

Maintains an attractive, well-kept classroom that encourages children to create, explore and make decisions with confidence.

Provides verbal recognition and acceptance to children while providing clear and consistent expectations for the children's behavior.

Accepts responsibility for maintenance and necessary housekeeping duties of the classroom, common use areas and playgrounds and prepares snacks and meals.

Attends all required staff meetings, workshops and/or school functions.

Maintains overall professional personal appearance.

Assists in other capacities that Director, or designee, determines is necessary.

Desired License/Certification:

CPR (preferred)

CDA (preferred)

Montessori accreditation (strongly preferred)

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

Valid driver’s license

Childcare experience and/or formal education in childcare

Adaptable, energetic, organized, punctual, self-starter

Knowledgeable of Montessori teaching philosophy

Capable of being physically active

Strong verbal and written communication skills
