The Civil Engineer Trainee participates in a 12-month training program designed to develop basic engineering skills through a "hands-on training" approach in an on-the-job environment.This is training work used to develop practical proficiency in the use of engineering knowledge, skills and abilities in a bridge engineering, transportation engineering and/or soils engineering environment. Participates in an on-the-job training program designed to develop practical proficiency in the use of engineering training received in school. As part of the training, but not limited to, are some of the following duties: assists in performing surveys for highways and bridges in a transportation engineering environment; assists in performing bridge design duties, bridge safety inspections, preparation of bridge plans and preparation of highway plans, geotechnical reports, etc.; assists in the preparation of highway and bridge construction projects; assists in the District and/or county maintenance organizations with assigned maintenance and traffic engineering duties; assists in performing other related duties as required for the training phase.Additional details regarding the duties of this position description can be found in the position description.Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employment.
Work hours are 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in District 10-0.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Four years of civil engineering experience, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or in a closely related field, which includes or was supplemented by major course work in civil engineering; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within nine months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Conditions of Employment:This position also requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
Other Requirements:PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
