CHAPTER:JOB DESCRIPTIONSACA STANDARD2-3029; 2-3030; 2-3041; 2-3044SUBJECTADULT PROBATION OFFICERDISCUSSION:This position exists under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director to provide probation and paroled services for individuals who are sentenced by the Common Pleas Court of Huntingdon County. An employee is appointed to this position by the Court and works at the pleasure of the Court.JOB OUALIFICATIONS:Education: An undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.General Requirements: This position requires a general knowledge of the principles and methods of probation and parole investigation and supervision. An individual must be able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other individuals, agencies and institutions. Good communication skills, oral and written, are a basic requirement of this position and well as the ability to prepare adequate reports and maintain excellent records of individuals being supervised. This individual must have the flexibility to utilize different roles in working with clients. They need to be supportive and advocate for the client when needed but also impose consequences and sanctions when appropriate and needed.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Supervise a caseload of adult offenders through contacts with the client, agencies, family, employer and friends.
Assist in making arrests or adults or juveniles who violate their probation or parole.
Prepare all necessary reports and Court orders as they pertain to their caseload.
Attend all assigned trainings.
Perform drug and alcohol tests on individuals under supervision
Make appropriate referral to agencies.
It should be noted that one adult officer is responsible for completing
all of the Presentence Investigation ordered by the Court. This is a
specialized position but there is still a caseload maintained by this
officer.
