Our hire will assist the controller with supervision and administration of work within the Controller's Office. They will provide all statutory and discretionary duties of the Controller's Office and work as an assistant to the controller in all matters pertaining to the office. The deputy will record all County financial activity in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), perform accurate auditing analyses of accounts payable and other financial records as needed, record journal entries for County funds, and reconcile all County funds. They will also maintain cost of sales (COS) and all other codes in accounting software and perform end-of-period closing functions. In addition to these duties, the deputy communicates with other departments regarding revenues, expenditures, errors, reporting, policies and procedures, and other accounting-related items, reviews and corrects fund discrepancies, and assists with various reports to government agencies. The position also oversees training of functional leaders, as well as reviews and signs disbursement requests.RequirementsA bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration is required, or an equivalent amount of training and experience, as well as three years' accounting experience required. Some government accounting experience is a plus. The skills and abilities required for the position are fluency in English; effective communications skills (both oral and written); effective interpersonal relationships with public, coworkers, and others; ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion; and to function independently and have flexibility. It is also required to have computer knowledge and proficiency with systems used to perform the essential functions (Munis, Word, e-mail, Internet, Excel to name a few), knowledge of office procedures and records administration, and the ability to accurately prepare and maintain correspondence, records, files, and reports. Our hire will need to be able to work under pressure, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines. They will also need to be able to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others, have skills in monitoring/assessing the performance of other individuals or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action, have skills in utilizing basic personal computer applications and data entry with minimal errors, and have skills in critical analysis related to identifying and solving problems.BenefitsCompetitive benefits package starts first of the month following 30 calendar days and includes 90% employer-paid PPO healthcare with vision and three-tier prescription components, pension plan, public employer's equivalent of 401(k), term life insurance, short-term disability, a menu of voluntary benefits that includes dental and Aflac, 14 annual paid holidays, and other time-off provisions.
