POSITION:The Certified Peer Specialist is responsible for creating a one to one supportive relationship with the person they are mentoring in recovery. Through this relationship they engage the individual to address identified goals and needs.QUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelor's degree in a human service field ORhigh school diploma with one year's experience in either paid or volunteer work in the human service's field. Must have a personal experience of mental illness and be willing to share those experiences with others facing similar life challenges. Must have good oral, written and computer skills. Ability to work independently and as a part of the Recovery Team. Demonstrates knowledge of Recovery and Wellness principles. Must have or is actively pursuing a Peer Specialist Certification. Act 33 and 34 Clearances required.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Networks and maintains positive working relationships with consumers, employers, mental health professionals and family members in order to provide effective services.
Provides peer mentoring and support on a one to one basis with consumers to identify their goals.
Serves as a mentor to promote hope and empowerment to the consumers in their recovery process.
Ensures the protection of the participant's rights, and to improve their knowledge of their rights and the grievance procedure.
Serves as an effective role model for work habits, grooming, and social skills.
Collaborates with the entire agency as a team to promote a recovery culture in which self-determination and decision making are maximized and supported.
Supports the consumer's increasing awareness of advocacy organizations that can provide additional recovery resources and supports.
Develops and encourages participation in peer support groups.
Provide services to the consumers both on site and in the community.
Effectively deals with crisis situations and accesses resources of the mental health system.
Able to effectively assist with the conduct and facilitation of self-help groups and other activities of the agency.
Provides education as needed to consumers so that they are able to monitor their medications for effectiveness and side effects.
Schedules appointments and coordinates follow-up care to meet the needs of the consumers.
Participates in supervisory team meeting to discuss cases and strategies.
Adheres to the schedule submitted at the beginning of each week or will notify supervisor of changes.
Keeps all appointments scheduled or will notify consumer of delay.
Attends relevant training workshops, as assigned, to advance skills.
Effectively participates in facilitating instructional groups, having knowledge of the subject, knowledge of group dynamics, and relevance to the consumer.
Knowledgeable about safety procedures on and off site.
Maintains Peer Specialist Certificate.
Knows that all documentation is completed within stated time frame and signed by all parties.
Maintains and upholds Community Counseling Center's policies, respects confidentiality, and exhibits a professional demeanor at all times while at work.
Adheres to agency policies and procedures/job duties or will be subject to disciplinary action.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Can perform the essential functions of this position with reasonable accommodations, if necessary.
Participates in CCC CQI plan to ensure quality of service to CCC consumers.
