The Department of Revenue is seeking a Tax Examiner 1 who possesses a great deal of technical tax knowledge and experience to maximize productivity while reviewing, processing, and examining registration documents. Apply today to start a new and exciting chapter in your career with the Bureau Registration and Taxpayer Management!DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs a Tax Examiner 1, you will learn how to carefully research and review customer information in PATH (Pennsylvania Tax Hub), myPath (Pennsylvania Tax Hub), and other sources, such as the Department of State website for the purpose of merging and separating customers and tax accounts due to registration processing errors. This also includes examining customer financial information and additional functions within PATH to reverse and transfer payments and tax liabilities when merging and separating customer's business tax accounts. Effective communication is key in this position as you will be assisting taxpayers in creating login credentials for the purpose of registering for business tax accounts, filing returns or payments, updating customer information, and resetting passwords. Additional responsibilities include:

Creating and processing online business tax registration

Completing tasks that require manual attention and resolution such as correcting conversion ID numbers, updating customer demographic information, reopening business tax accounts, adding branch locations, resolving minor errors on tax returns, and resolving business tax registration suspensions received externally

Creating tax returns in PATH

Computing penalty and interest charges on delinquent taxpayers' account

Preparing and prepping daily mail, creating mail tickets, opening, sorting, and distributing mail, prepping, and scanning documentsIf you possess excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, we want you on our team!Interested in learning more? Full-time employment

Work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, upon successful completion of in-office training. You will be required to report in-office one day per month. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Two years of general office work; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

You must have customer service experience.

You must have experience handling of incoming and outgoing phone calls.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have liv d, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
