Correctional Officer

A completed Dauphin County Employment Application must accompany each resume to be considered for employment. Absent a completed application, the individual s information will not be considered complete. Employment applications are distributed by the Dauphin County Personnel Department on the 5th Floor of the Dauphin County Administration Building, located at 2nd and Market St's. Harrisburg; the Dauphin County Prison, 501 Mall Road, Harrisburg; and online at www.dauphincounty.org. Once on the home page, click on the icon for Employment Opportunities, then click on the icon titled Application Forms. Print out the application, complete it, and return it to the address on the first page of the application. A Correctional Officer has responsibility for the care, custody and control of inmates. The individual must be 18years of age at the time of employment. Candidates must undergo a rigorous testing and interview procedure, and if hired, must successfully complete a probationary period including basic training both at the State Academy and at the facility, as well as on-the-job training. Uniformed employees are subject to a $500 refundable uniform security deposit. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, the employee will receive a raise in salary. Shift and days off are dependent upon the Union bidding process. The County of Dauphin provides an excellent employer-paid benefit package. DCP is certified through Veterans Affairs as an On-the-Job Training Center; therefore, veterans, National Guard members and reservists could be eligible for reimbursement during the six-month training period through G.I.Bill benefits.
