UPMC Hamot is looking for a Casual Patient Care Technician to support the Float Pool!If you’re passionate about patient care and looking for an opportunity to work in different specializations, we invite you to apply today!This position is Casual with rotating shifts, holidays and weekends required.4, 8, or 12 hour shifts available!Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.Responsibilities:

Provides patient care, assists with procedures and daily activities. Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.

Provides feedback to RN, reports changes in patient status.

Performs core nursing assistant tasks: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care.

Performs at least four additional tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal.

Reports equipment malfunctions, communicates with other departments. Establishes professional, respectful relationships.

Contributes to unit activities: responding to call lights, phones, passing meal trays, transporting patients.

Receives feedback, identifies learning needs, improves knowledge and skills. Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction, manages patient restraints.

Communicates effectively with healthcare team, understands cultural diversity and workplace safety.

Adheres to policies and procedures, complies with safety standards. Supports department changes, projects, and quality initiatives.

Documents in medical records, performs clerical functions.

Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping/removal.

Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Must have either:

1 year of general healthcare experience.

6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion.

Enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training with at least one clinical rotation.

Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.

Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class. Successful completion of basic information system training.

Microcomputer experience preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

EMT or Paramedic certification, or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.

Access to medications is limited to distribution to the nurse.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

ACLS preferred.
