JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate – Precision Spraying SystemsThe Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE –http://abe.psu.edu/) and the Fruit Research and Extension Center (FREC – http://agsci.psu.edu/frec) are looking for a motivated individual to join its team as a Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate. The selected candidate will work in one or more of the areas including: detection and control systems for automation and mechanization, monitoring and data collection for precision agriculture, and design of optimal machine systems. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Developing a ground-based spraying system for targeted chemical blossom thinning of apples

Designing a machine vison system for flower cluster detection system and then integrating with the spraying system for precision crop thinning in apple orchards

Designing and implementing research studies, collecting, and analyzing data, and assisting the group in preparing research results for publication.

Assisting in other projects in the group, write project reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.

Presentation (oral and poster) of research results in scientific meetings and conferences

Required Qualifications:

Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in an appropriate field and be able to provide evidence that all requirements have been met for completion of the Ph.D. prior to the effective date of hire.

Good track record of peer-reviewed publications in one of the following areas: machine systems, autonomous systems, sensing, and/or other precision agriculture technologies.

Demonstrated experience in one or more programming languages (Python, C/C, Matlab, etc.,).

CAD modeling (SolidWorks), prototyping, and fabrication experience are desired.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills as demonstrated by published journal articles.

Strong time-management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and self-motivated individual.
