Medical SecretaryFull-time, 8 AM - 4:30 PM, occasionally 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM,AFSCME - UnionPosted: November 8, 2024Purpose:Serves as receptionist for the Department; transcribes reports; types other material from prepared copy, i.e., requisitions; files reports, authorizations, patient cards, and other related material; prepares x-ray film folders for interpretation and filing purposes.Responsibilities:
Serves in the capacity of receptionist in the Department, including receiving patients, visitors, and other guests and making sure they are handled in a timely and proper manner.
Files reports, correspondences, and other related material accurately, efficiently, and promptly onto patient's charts.
Answers telephone promptly and courteously and maintains free-flowing accurate communications.
Accurately and efficiently charges patients' accounts by use of a hospital computer system.
Takes delivers and relays calls and messages in a timely and accurate manner.
Demonstrates knowledge and ability to adapt to clinical treatment and instructional aspects of care to all stages of the life cycle and various stages of health and disease.
Performs typing/transcription of patient records and all other departmental documents and correspondence in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
Sorts and distributes incoming mail to appropriate department personnel in a timely and accurate manner.
Performs any other office-related functions that would be appropriate for a secretary in the Department.
Maintains the patient's medical records by keeping them neat, current, properly assembled, and stored in the proper place.
Makes copies of reports as requested and forwards to requesting individual, department, or physician.
Must meet all general employment requirements of the Hospital and in addition: Education and Formal Training Required: High School Diploma or GED required.
Must be a graduate of a Medical Secretarial Program.
Experience Required: Two years of previous work experience in a medical office setting dealing with physicians/public/patients in the position of a medical secretary/receptionist.
Other qualifications: 1. Thorough knowledge of grammar and punctuation. 2. Must have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Professional Office Suite (or equivalent) experience. Need to be able to type efficiently when assigned to transcription. 3. Ability to communicate with physicians, patients, and the general public. 4.
