Seeking a non-smoking, health-minded, quiet, compassionate live-in caregiver for Ray, a stroke-disabled 83 yr old man, in a holistic care setting: an educational opportunity for the right person. Natural therapeutic approaches are being used to remediate severe coronary artery disease and stroke damage. 24/7 care is needed for two weeks at a time and then there’s one week off while Ray’s PhD daughter cares for him. With the support of part-time aides (4 hrs in the morning and 4 hrs in the evening), the live-in caregiver will learn to use dietary and natural therapies and for addressing wound care, urinary and bowel issues, immune health, heart disease, stroke damage, cancer and more. Ray’s daughter has taught a college-level integrative medicine course and can work with you to obtain credits for this experience if/as needed. On-job training provided. Must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record and be able to take Ray to appointments. The ability to do “bear hug” lift-transfers is a plus; training is provided for the MultiLift needed to transfer Ray into the car. Good communication skills and clear-speaking English is essential, as Ray – being communication challenged from his stroke damage – cannot understand English if there is a thick accent. Keeping a daily written log of essential care information is also part of the job, so legible handwriting is a plus. Helpful also is a love of the outdoors, nature and gardening, as Ray likes to be taken outdoors and down to his garden.
We seek the right person who is within a four hour driving radius of Richboro, PA. Former live-in caregivers include a retired clinical psychologist (for 9 months) who lived a four hour drive away, and an experienced caregiver (for 1 yr 4 months) who was interested in learning about holistic care and who lived a 1.5 hour’s drive away. Pay is a flat rate $280/day (you cover your own food costs) for 15 days in a 21 day cycle (2 weeks working, one week off, then repeat). This translates to 15 days x $280/day = $4,200 per 3 week cycle. There are 17 three-week cycles in a year, so this amounts to an annual pre-tax payment of $71,400 for working 2/3rds of the year and getting 1/3 of the year off.
