This program will also aid in the recruitment process and allow student to make a smooth transition from the student role to the staff therapist role by gaining familiarity with LVHN Respiratory Care's policies, practices, procedures and colleagues. The internship program will also provide education and mentorship opportunities to LVHN respiratory colleagues.Job Duties
Perform bronchial hygiene therapy
Prepare and administer humidification and nebulization therapy
set-up and administer NIPPV therapy
Disassemble and prepare respiratory equipment for cleaning, disinfection and/or sterilization
Clean, disinfect and/or sterilize all respiratory equipment
Assist in the transport of patients requiring respiratory support
sets-up and changes oxygen delivery and humidification devices
Perform resting, titration, exercise and nocturnal oximetry studies
Perform simple bedside pulmonary function testing
Administer therapeutic gases
Perform arterial punctures (radial and brachial arteries only) and analyze samples maintaining quality
Replace oxygen and other compressed gas cylinders used for the respiratory care of patients
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED Must be enrolled in an CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy education program that offers an internship class as part of the curriculum
American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania
Preferred Qualifications
ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - State of Pennsylvania
Physical DemandsLift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift.
