This role will directly support Air Products' carbon capture and green hydrogen plants, among others, through a combination of materials selection, failure analysis, and material performance research.This junior technical role will be focused on developing into the global subject matter expert for nonmetallic materials for the company as regards to nonmetallic materials application in industrial processes.You will receive support and mentoring from more senior engineers in the US and China for both technical and professional development. As part of the Chief Engineer's Office, MET performs risk assessment for the company and interacts with high level directors and managers to assess, communicate, and document risk, in addition to materials selection, failure analysis, and lifetime prediction work.Scope of Responsibilities Include:Nonmetallic materials selection support for new plants and retrofitsWorking closely with the company nonmetallics materials lead for knowledge transfer and documentation through creation of company standards (application of commercially available materials, not new materials development)Plant support on materials compatibility, repair or replace decisions, and inspectionsIdentifying gaps in materials performance and addressing through internal or external researchFailure analysis-lab work and communication of results to stakeholdersWorking with external organizations such as AMPP (NACE), API, MTI, CGA, SPE, and/or ASTM to provide input on industry standards and keep up with industry developments and trends10% travel, including plant visits, conference travel, and/or supplier visitsKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:Experience executing materials performance testing and/or research projectsExperience with industrial application of commercially available nonmetallics and adherence to industry standardsPreferred Requirements:Experience with welding of plastics and related industry standardsExperience with CO2 capture and sequestration, and/or hydrogen productionExperience with cryogenic materials performance and testingEducation and Licensing Requirements:Bachelor's Degree or, Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, or a related fieldBachelor's or Master's Degree with up to 10 years of experiencePh.D. with up to 5 years of experience, outside of school doing failure analysis and/or materials selection in the chemical process industries and/or energy industry#LI-Hybrid
