General Description Intensive In-home Family Therapist (IIFT) (50%)
Provides intensive home-based, individual and family therapy to the recipients of the Intensive In-Home Family Therapy contract (IIFT) with Douglas County Juvenile Departments prevention program in Roseburg, Oregon. They may also provide case management and consultation with PCPs, schools, ODHS Child Welfare and Self Sufficiency programs, and other community partners. Eligible clients are families with a child, in 4th-6th grade, who is considered to be at risk for entering the juvenile system. Family may be self-referred or referred by Juvenile Prevention, schools, County Mental Health, ODHS Child Welfare or Self Sufficiency, or the clients PCP. Authorization for services may be required from the Juvenile Prevention Program.
General Description Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)(50%)
Provides short-term intensive services to families in which young children are experiencing behavioral and/or emotional difficulties. Responds to referrals from ODHS/Child Welfare. Parent Child Interaction Therapy Servicesserve children ages two through seven, and their caregivers, when the children have significant social, emotional, or behavioral disorders. In PCIT, caregivers are taught specific skills to establish or strengthen a nurturing and secure relationship with their child, while encouraging pro-social behavior and decreasing maladaptive behavior. Ideally, during coaching sessions, the therapist observes the interaction from behind a one-way mirror and provides guidance to the parent through a wireless communication system. Provides skills training to children, and adults to address safety concerns. Develops and implements effective service plan. Practitioner will be trained (if not already trained) by either UC Davis or PCIT International Certified Trainers.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters or doctorate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field. Must be eligible for licensure. Knowledge and/or experience providing mental health services, including assessment and diagnosis to children, families, and adults. Able to provide Parent Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT) interventions to appropriate families; willing to be trained (if not already trained) by either UC Davis or PCIT International Certified Trainers.
Must be computer proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and record keeping software preferred. Must have respectful, open, accepting attitude toward clients and their families. Pass a ODHS background check and/or fingerprinting. Maintain client confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of parenting skills/techniques and child development, and experience working with disadvantaged individuals and high-risk families. Strong understanding of available community resources and supports.PCIT trained. Two years experience working with at- risk families within the last five years. Knowledge of dynamics of high-risk families including sexual abuse, substance use, and domestic violence
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
50% - Direct Client Services
Interview client to obtain information concerning family history or other assessment information
Provide therapy and case management services in the home, school, or community
Develop and implement service plans, defining specific goals and objectives, and revise as needed
Provide in-home change and safety services to children, adolescents, and families
Assess for caregiver capacities as related to child safety and well-being
Help family members overcome barriers and identify strengths to meet the child(ren)s needs for safety, permanence, and well-being
Conduct parent-child coaching and interaction sessions
Maintain and carry out all scheduled appointments that are part of the safety plan
Utilize Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Motivational Interviewing, Collaborative Problem Solving, and other evidence-based practices
Provide a range of services including parent education, brief counseling, communication skills, home management, budgeting, stress reduction, stabilization of home environment, and other change or safety services
Refer client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling as appropriate and suggested by caseworker
Help parents improve diminished protective capacities
Assist non-offending parents to identify and meet needs of child victims of sexual abuse; make referrals for counseling
Provide intervention that is family-focused, culturally relevant, behavior- and goal-directed
Services to adoptive or foster parents in stabilizing placements to avoid placement disruption
Work a flexible schedule to meet families needs and be available for crisis consultation
35% - Case Coordination
Work closely with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, and primary care physicians to coordinate treatment
Coordinate access and provision of services from multiple agencies, including establishing service linkages, advocating for service needs, and obtaining entitlements based on mental or emotional disability
Coordinate case activities with Contract/Program Supervisor, ODHS/Child Welfare, Juvenile Department, schools, and other community partners
Participate in Family Decision Meetings, Citizens Review Board, and Court hearings
Assist ODHS/Child Welfare workers and intake workers by providing consultations/courtesy assistance in evaluating the appropriateness of ISRS interventions
Attend and actively participate in weekly group supervision meetings with supervisor and peers
Assist workers in coordinating return of children from foster care to the home of parents or relatives
15% - Other duties
Report any potentially dangerous situations or safety plan violations to ODHS or law enforcement
Document all travel time, mileage, and other required work-related activities
Maintain accurate and complete client records, including weekly progress reports, treatment plans, and service summaries, and memos to chart, within the electronic client record (ECR), to meet contract requirements.
Complete all PCIT documentation, screening, and coding to fidelity, and complete quarterly reports with Program Manager
Develop a written record of appropriately used direct support funds for client family
Attend and participate in regular clinical supervision and team meetings, as directed
Remain current on relevant research and evidenced based practices
Report child abuse and neglect
Transport clients when necessary. A valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance that meets Options policy is required
Working Conditions:
Extended periods of time sitting or standing at work station updating client records, phone work, and therapy sessions
Mobility and dexterity sufficient to assist clients and handle required job related functions and move about various facilities
Ability to cope with clients who may use challenging or offensive language with potential for escalation to physical aggression.
May be required to work afternoon, evening, and/or weekend hours
Will travel locally with own vehicle. Must be insured with minimal liability insurance
Positions that require driving clients must maintain vehicle insurance as required by law, with a minimum of $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 personal auto liability coverage (proof of insurance will be required).
Salary range: This is an average starting range for new hires. Options follows Oregon Equal Pay Act Law to ensure all of our employees are paid equally amongst their peers. Each candidate's total experience, education, and training will be taken into consideration when calculating their starting wage.
