Vanport is looking for Marine Millwrights for shipboard and industrial projects. This position is dynamic and exciting, always a new challenge! Marine Millwrights are skilled in the installation and repair of marine equipment aboard ships, barges, or at land-based facilities.

Marine experience is not required, industrial experience will be considered. Vanport is looking for great people, we can and will train the right person for the job.

MARINE MILLWRIGHT SUMMARY

General Skills Required:

Equipment Removal and Installation

Equipment Diagnosis and Troubleshooting

Diagnosis and Repair of Rotating Equipment

Bearing and Seal Replacement

Hydraulic System Diagnosis and Repair

Rigging

Special consideration given to people experienced with:

Propulsion Machinery

Sea valves

Steering gear

Anchor handling equipment.

Elevators/Conveyors

Pumps

Ventilation Fans

Winches

Cranes

Disassembly, Inspection, & Equipment:

Uses reference documents & tech manuals to properly and safety disassemble, inspect, and overhaul various shipboard equipment. Alternatively, is capable of installing new OEM type parts onto equipment that with known deficiencies.

Equipment could include: shipboard cranes (whole), turrets, cylinders, swing drives, DCV’s, hoses, low voltage electrical, winches, hydraulic swivels, electrical slip rings, sheaves, pins, anchor windlass’ (hydraulic or electric powered), winches, pumps (centrifugal, screw, etc.), valves (typically larger than 5”, gates, globes, swing checks, etc.), steam turbines (generally under the supervision of tech rep), and ventilation louvers.

Qualifications and Experience:

High school or equivalent education preferred

Technical school or Machinist Apprentice graduate preferred

Typically requires 3 years Millwright experience, with at least 1 year working in marine repair or ship building environment, or any combination of education, training or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the typical duties.

Must be able to comprehend and understand mechanical equipment function

Must be able to read blueprints and follow exact tolerances

Must be able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on any assigned shift

Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English)

Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings

Able to work independently as well as in a team environment

Work performed both onboard ship and in shop

Travel and overtime may be required

A proficiency may be conducted prior to hire
