Hand and Hide (www.handandhide.com) is a Portland-based hand-crafted leather goods company since 2011. We are looking for a part-time (can lead to full-time) production worker. We specialize in high-quality leather covers for tech devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
The job will involve some of the following depending on your skill set:
Laser cutting and engraving leather pieces.
Setting hardware like snaps and rivets.
Hand and machine stitching.
Packaging and shipping.
Customer support through Etsy and our website.
Product or social media photography/videography.
Work environment:
Peaceful, low-stress worksite in our studio in SE Portland.
Start part-time (20 hours per week) until fully trained and then have the opportunity to work full-time.
Flexible Hours: start on a schedule that fits within our work week, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Once trained, work at your own schedule.
Utilize our maker space for personal (non-commercial) projects on your own time.
Core Skills:
Attention to detail is absolutely essential. We have a complex line of products with lots of options so it is paramount to get everything right (hopefully the first time!)
Must be open to learning new skills with a positive, can-do attitude. We have our own way of doing things and we are constantly striving to improve our products and our processes.
Must be dependable. Once trained, you will work un-supervised and you must be able to manage your time to get high-quality orders out on time.
Must be comfortable working with your hands and with tools.
This is a somewhat physical job and involves lifting (up to 25 lbs) and long periods of time with repetitive motions.
Bonus skills:
Previous experience with saddle stitching.
Previous experience with industrial machine sewing.
Experience with Etsy and Shopify backends.
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop experience.
Laser-cutting experience.
Compensation:
Pay starting at $16/hour based on experience and skill.
Flexible hours. Once trained, work at your own schedule.
Hands-on training. We'll train you in leather working, laser-cutting, and lots of other skills related to running a small business.
