I have a small business located in Amboy, Washington (near the hardware store) that is growing and we are in need of someone to help with tech support, customer service, and fulfilling online orders. Amboy is a good ways north of Portland and this would really work best for someone local. We serve a really niche market, and that is brake parts for 1950s GM cars and brake and suspension parts for 1967-79 Ford trucks. We are an online business, with no retails space and no customers in person. We operate out of a pole building shop and it's nothing fancy. We have a bathroom with running water and that was a recent big improvement. The shop is unheated. There is one full time employee, two or so part time employees, and myself, although most of my time is spent running another business.
As the business has grown, customer service has been more than I am able to do myself. The business gets 30+ emails a day and maybe 5 orders per day. Most inquiries are about understanding which parts to purchase or how parts work. You must have some automotive experience, a basic understanding of how car brakes work, and a decent knowledge of classic cars. If you can identify a 1950s Buick from a 1950s Oldsombile, or know the difference between a Ford highboy and a lowboy, this job could be a good fit. A lot of things we sell are kits with a variety of parts, and we have printed instructions to help with that, but you will still need to be willing to learn. A decent amount of this job would be packaging up parts into boxes.
You would also need to be reasonably efficient at typing and have a basic understanding of microsoft excel. With a lot of this job being online, it could be partly remote work but that would only be after a vetting period.
This job will be part time with flexible hours but for a rough estimate, 3 days per week at 4 hours each, 12 hours total per week. There is room to increase those hours but this is a realistic starting point. I can pay $25 per hour and there is room to go up. Starting out will require some flexibility on your end and my end, as I work a normal 8 to 5 job and we would have start someone out with an early morning or evening schedule for training. Once you are all trained, you could chose your hours within reason. This job could be really great for someone who enjoys being in a shop, talking about classic cars and trucks, and is willing to learn about a variety of specialty products.
Send me an email with a summary of your background, location, experience, appreciation of classic American cars, etc and why you would want the job. Please no applicants with serious criminal history, substance abuse problems, unreliable, etc.
