The pay rate will be competitive, based on individual qualifications and experience. (Starts at $25/hr.)

AshEco Solutions, LLC, a woman-owned natural resources consulting firm based out of Kelso, Washington is seeking a Biologist-Environmental Scientist with experience in natural resource management and critical area studies. We are seeking a candidate who is looking to develop or continue a long-term consulting career that combines technical expertise, business acumen and project management. Responsibilities include conducting field work, background project research, completing formal data forms, technical report writing, project management, and permit coordination. AshEco Solutions has strong relationships with a range of clients and professional associates in southwest Washington providing us the opportunity to support and enhance the communities in which we live and work. This position will have some flexibility to work a hybrid schedule and include working from a home office and weekly site and office meetings with the lead project manager.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist in performing site investigations, wetland and ordinary high water mark delineations, and habitat surveys across southwest Washington.

Perform field work and collect field data including wetland test plot data, vegetation and soil data, photographic documentation, and GPS locations. (Includes hiking over potentially rough terrain, use of shovel, machete, GPS unit).

Assist with formal data compilation and analysis, background research, the preparation and writing of scientific reports to interpret and present results of field and desktop studies/site plans/mitigation proposals, permit application preparation, mapping, and provide direction to AutoCAD drafter as needed for formal project figure production.

Collaborate closely with the owner and Senior Biologist of AshEco Solutions, as well as the company drafter, admin assistant, agency staff and clients.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, biology, natural resource management, or another relevant field.

One to five years of related experience with environmental data collection and analysis and technical writing.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the desire to learn technical competencies for a variety of potential project types is essential.

Experience and training conducting wetland delineations and/or ordinary high water mark delineations is preferred.

Experience and training in completing Washington State Department of Ecology Wetland Rating Forms is preferred.

Skilled use of compass, topographic maps, GPS unit, tablet, and other field equipment is preferred but not required.

Experience of collaborating with biologists, planners, engineers, surveyors, contractors, and agency project managers is preferred.

Experience with reviewing and understanding local Critical Areas Codes, state and federal guidance documents is preferred.

Experience with completing JARPA and SEPA application forms is preferred.

Able to work independently and as a part of a team, and interact positively with AshEco Solutions team, site personnel, clients, and members of the public.

Basic skills in field identification of native vegetation and wildlife in the Pacific Northwest or ability to learn.

Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to learn quickly.

Ability to take initiative, resolve problems and ensure tasks are completed in the most effective manner.

Able to travel to field sites, hike in remote conditions and conduct fieldwork for potentially long hours sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to forty pounds.

Able to have flexibility in scheduling due to changing field conditions.

Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
