Powell’s Books, the world’s largest independent bookstore, has openings for temporary part-time Generalist positions at our City of Books location in downtown Portland.
These positions will spend the first part of their temporary assignment working on a project aimed at adjusting inventory. Shifts will be spent using a list to pull books from shelves and overstock. The use of large book carts and ladders will be required.
Once the project is complete, employees will be trained and begin working on various other Generalist tasks, including cashiering, shelving, and shifts at information desks.
These positions are designed to end sometime in the beginning of September. There are often opportunities to apply for Regular (ongoing) positions near the end of a temporary assignment.
Shifts will primarily be 5pm - 9pm, totaling 20 hours a week with an opportunity for extra hours.
The successful candidates will have a strong and demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service, adaptability and flexibility, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated experience ensuring accuracy in their work, and an attention to detail.
The starting pay for these positions is $15.45 per hour, with a wage increase to $17.00 effective the first day of the pay period following the 31st calendar day from hire.
