Position title: Field Organizer

Reports to: PPACE Director

Duration: Regular Full-time Position

Hours: 1.0 Full-Time Equivalent

Compensation: $19.81-$22.30/hr, based on experience

Position Description

The Field Organizer leads the development and implementation of APANO’s political and electoral work through digital organizing, communications, and data management. They will build political power to ensure we win during elections and sustain successful grassroots campaigns beyond Election Day.

The Field Organizer will work with APANO politicos and staff, VOTE Network members, volunteers, and other community partners to collaborate on turnout and participation in campaigns where APANO AF is involved. They will help implement a field program, represent APANO AF at some policy and electoral campaign coalitions, and support efforts to grow APANO AF’s political membership base. The Field Organizer should be organized, metrics-based, energetic, and capable of motivating and managing volunteers and data.

The position will report directly to the Political, Policy, Advocacy & Civic Engagement (PPACE) Director. APANO AF’s electoral and civic engagement programs are fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented. Examples of the issue areas that APANO AF and this position may work on include: childcare policy, health equity, economic justice, reproductive justice, immigrant rights, democracy reform and voting rights, housing, and potential increased forays into criminal justice reform and mental health care.

Primary Responsibilities

Digital Organizing (30%)

Strategic Planning

Partner with the Communications team to develop the overall digital strategy to grow our AAPI Politico activist list;

Participate in various coalition spaces to support the production of communication strategy and community facing toolkits

Finalize and manage digital strategies and plans, setting parameters for success and tracking efforts;

Prepare and draft copy for digital organizing through drip email campaigns, social media, blog posts, and more;

Base Building

Utilize the appropriate digital channels to increase paid and organic reach, including email marketing through EveryAction, online advertising, social media and texting;

Set up, test and train staff/supporters around texting, relational organizing, online advocacy and other software tools for organizing;

Coordinate post-digital-campaign follow-up;

Follow up with potential new leaders;

Connect with Politico members online to boost visibility, conversation and overall engagement with community members;

Develop and execute electoral field programs;

Cover for fellow organizers, as needed;

Provide coaching and technical assistance to other organizers and community members, helping them to make use of technology and identify outreach efforts to further organizing goals.

Political Strategy and Communication (30%)

Implementing the strategic plan put together with the Communications team, the Field Organizer will:

Help manage the posting, monitoring and engagement on APANO AF’s social media accounts;

Manage election and political communications, including the endorsement process, announcements and APANO AF’s voter guide;

Track national, state and local news; distill what information is pertinent to APANO AF’s work with an emphasis on political coverage;

Assist with content creation as needed for the political team, including:

Email, social media, flier/one-pager and website copy;

Press-related content, like quotes, press releases, media advisories and talking points;

Social media, email and print graphics;

Support management of the APANO AF website, including posting to the blog, uploading documents and editing existing pages;

Track and analyze social media and website metrics related to political efforts;.

Work with the Communications Director to make the website more reflective of the organizing program, providing more regular updates;

Track and manage a database of stories to integrate into the communications plan.

Database and List Management (30%)

Keep data up to date and track progress towards the organizational team goals

Software management: VAN, EveryAction and other voter data systems;

Work with other campaigns — including ballot measure and candidate campaigns — to share data, analyze and strategize;

Create and manage virtual phone banks, text banks and events in databases;

Develop processes and workflows for data management.

Development (10%)

Create field proposals for campaigns to utilize APANO AF’s robust field infrastructure;

Complete follow-up reporting on the successes of our field work to deliver to the campaigns, PPACE Director and Communications Director.

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity;

A record of success working with communities of color, low-income folks, LGBTAQIA+ individuals and other historically marginalized communities;

Enthusiasm for working to advance Asian and Pacific Islander political power;

Strong project management experience;

Ability to prioritize and think strategically;

Strong writing skills, ability to synthesize and communicate about complex material;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment;

Be reliable, self-motivated, resourceful, and able to adapt to fast-paced environments;

Familiarity with the Voter Activation Network (VAN), EveryAction, legislative tracking and field organizing metrics.

Proficiency with social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in an Asian and/or Pacific Islander language

Experience in 501(c)4 candidate endorsements and campaigns

Comfort with training volunteers and entry-level staff in field tactics, such as phone banking, texting, email, door canvassing and tabling

Comfort with creating social media content to engage community members;

Proficiency with Canva Pro and/or Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop;

Able to apply a trauma-informed lens to all things.

Travel Required

In-state travel is required for this position. Must possess a valid driver license and provide proof of insurance if using a personal vehicle, or must be insurable if renting. Must be able to drive a motor vehicle safely and use a seat belt when in operation. Mileage and travel expenses are reimbursed per APANO AF policy.
