We are among the top private nonprofit schools in the Portland area. We are looking for our next incredible team member, the Director of Development and Communications. Total contributed income is approx. $800,000 annually divided between major gifts and annual individual giving campaign, foundation grants, events, and corporate sponsorships. Development is 80% of the role compared to Communications.

Roles and Responsibilities

 Create and implement annual development and communications plans.

 Plan and implement annual fundraising programs and events in conjunction with the Executive Director.

 Focus on Major Donors (individuals) as highest priority.

 Manage our annual raffle in the Sept/Oct and annual appeal campaign in December.

 Plan our Gala scheduled for April 11, 2025 at the Hilton.

 Research, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and partners.

 Develop relationships with local media and community to enhance our reputation and brand.

 Manage the school’s advertising plan, including managing deadlines and creating ads for print and online

with support from our Development Assistant.

 Oversee content of weekly school e-news.

 Oversee contact database and mailing lists used for ongoing communications with donors and sponsors.

 Oversee development of printed and media collateral needed for fundraising including website, social media,

newsletter, and annual report.

 Develop and maintains relationship with local service clubs like Rotary, Lions, and Kiwanis.

 Prepare monthly development highlights for the Executive Director's report to the Board of Directors.

 Recruit and oversee volunteers for development events, including building a parent volunteer base.

 Help revive community at the school post pandemic.

 Supervises 1-2 Development staff including Dev Asst and Grant Writer.

 Enthusiastically supports the mission of the school.

 Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications to perform this job successfully

 Proven track record of fundraising success, in particular with major donors ($1K+).

 Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 4-5 years of fundraising or equivalent experience.

 Strong written and verbal communications skills.

 Experience with Microsoft Office and Google docs applications.

 Extensive fundraising event development and management history.

 Experience with donor databases, preferably Donor Perfect.

 Experience in desktop publishing applications including Adobe Acrobat, Canva, or Publisher desirable.

 Experience with email marketing tools, such as Constant Contact.

 Knowledge of social networking tools such as Facebook, Instagram, etc.

 Familiarity with auction/event software, preferably School Auction.

 Ability to grow a planned giving program and OCF Endowment Partners Fund.

 Ability to help sustain a professional, collaborative, respectful work relationship with staff, Board, public and families.

 Maintain strict confidentiality with donor, family, staff and school information.

 Ability to drive to various meetings with donors, foundations, corporations, and to attend occasional after hour’s

events.

 Standing, walking, sitting, talking/listening, reaching with hands and arms.

 Lifting up to 25 pounds.

 Drive to Portland area events, such as annual gala.

Compensation

Starting salary is $85,000 plus strong bonus potential. Excellent benefits include 3.5 weeks paid vacation, health and dental insurance, short and long term disability, life insurance, and 4% employer contributions to a TIAA CREF retirement fund.
