The Opportunity

OPB is seeking an Accountant to perform a wide variety of specialized accounting tasks such as accounts receivable, journal entries, account reconciliations and more. This position is part of a small team of OPB staff working onsite at our OPB headquarters.

Position Details

This position is responsible for accounts receivable, journal entries, account reconciliations, maintenance of the fixed asset subsidiary ledger and the preparation and processing of cash receipts.

Responsibilities

30% - Ensure that financial activity for fixed assets is accurately recorded in the general ledger and the fixed asset subsidiary ledger. Prepare and process journal entries and transactions in both ledgers for fixed asset purchases, disposals and depreciation. Prepare monthly account reconciliations of the fixed asset accounts. Prepare annual audit workpapers for fixed assets. Work with appropriate personnel to assign physical inventory tags. Coordinate the bi-annual physical inventory of fixed assets.

30% - Ensure that the financial activity for cash receipts is accurately reported in the general ledger and the accounts receivable subsidiary ledgers. Prepare and process daily cash receipt transactions. Assist with reconciling membership deposits.

30% - Record A/R receipts to invoices in subsidiary ledgers. Monitor A/R balances and work with Account Execs and customers to identify and resolve problems. Assist with producing invoices and statements for underwriting activity and record monthly journal entry for underwriting revenue. Reconcile GL to A/R subsidiary ledgers. Track in-kind (trade) activity for compliance and annual journal entry.

5% - Ensure that financial activity for allocated costs (such as vehicles) is accurately recorded in the general ledger. Prepare and process journal entries monthly for cost allocations of activity. Monitor and review activity in general ledger accounts for receivables, prepaids and payables not associated with subsidiary ledgers and prepare journal entries as needed and monthly account reconciliations.

5% - Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position spends the majority of time in the office with extensive use of a computer and telephone. Some overtime may be required to meet deadlines.

Minimum Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attitudes):

Three years' experience as an Accounting Technician or equivalent.

Associate's degree in accounting (experience may qualify)

Knowledge of generally accepted finance processes, regulations and controls.

Knowledge and experience with networked accounting software, spreadsheets and word processing.

Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

Excellent organizational, computational, customer service and communication skills.

Adaptable and flexible to demands of workflow and nature of projects.

Ability to establish priorities and work quickly to meet deadlines in a busy environment.

Proactive, oriented to problem solving, teamwork and the constant pursuit of improvement.

Preferred Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attitudes):

Four Year Degree in Accounting

Experience with running physical inventories

Additional Information

This position reports to the Accounting Director, is represented and benefits eligible.

The probable hiring range for this non-exempt, represented position is between $27.00 - $30.00 hourly, depending on qualifications.
