Must Haves

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

Experience leading shipping and warehouse teams with inventory responsibility

Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Mail, and Google Calendar

Strong background in inventory control and strong proficiency with MRP/ERP systems

Thorough understanding and familiarity with international and hazardous goods shipping requirements

Self-motivated with a results-driven approach

A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required

Job Title: Shipping & Warehouse Supervisor

Department: Operations

Reports To: Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

Supervise all and Shipping and Warehouse personnel and functions to ensure accuracy of internal work orders and outgoing shipments while maintaining accurate inventory levels across both departments. This is a working supervisory position where most of the Supervisor’s day will be spent in each area working alongside the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Supervises Shipping and Warehouse department operations.

Sets daily priorities and coordinates employee activities.

Oversee and optimize all inventory control processes, ensuring accurate tracking, reconciliation, and reporting of stock levels across all locations and systems.

Develop and implement standardized inventory procedures, encompassing receiving, storage, distribution, and returns, to enhance efficiency and minimize discrepancies.

Train and support team members in best practices for inventory handling, promoting accountability and attention to detail.

Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to reduce waste, improve accuracy, and streamline inventory-related workflows.

Works with the Operations Manager to make decisions regarding inventory, staffing, processes, procedures, and expenses related to each department, as well as the accurate processing of internal work orders and the proper shipment of customer orders.

Collaborate with other departments to resolve inventory, work order, and sales order management issues.

Works closely with Buyer and Order Entry personnel to ensure smooth flow of information, transactions and orders.

Works with multiple vendors to obtain necessary department supplies.

Prepares international export documentation and assists customs, carriers, and customers with international shipping questions or problems.

Ensures accurate and timely delivery of product transfers to contract manufacturers.

Helps to coordinate and report shipping and warehouse data/metrics/errors.

Collaborates with the team to utilize all available tools, data, and personnel to resolve issues, continually improve processes, and foster the best possible work environment.

Coordinate, define, and implement standard operating procedures for all Shipping and Warehouse operations.

May drive the company truck between warehouse locations. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

May operate a forklift. A successful completion of Vernier's certification program is required.

Ability to safely use standard warehouse equipmentsuch as, but not limited to, hand truck, cart, or pallet jack.

Maintains regular and punctual attendance in accordance with scheduled work hours.

Provides stellar customer service by maintaining professional working relationships with internal and external customers.

Spends the majority of each day working alongside the team.

Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Shipping and Warehouse Departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:

Oversee training of new and existing employees on departmental processes and procedures.

Assign, direct, and evaluate performance.

Establish clear and regular communication expectations.

Motivate, coach, counsel, recognize/reward performance, set the tone of the group, address complaints, and discipline workers.

Actively support the personal and professional growth of team members through regular feedback, coaching and developmental opportunities, including quarterly one-on-one meetings and timely performance reviews.

Create opportunities for cross-functional teamwork and peer learning, breaking down silos and encouraging community building.

Respond to challenges with patience, curiosity, and care, leading with a solutions-focused and human-centered approach.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.

Associate's degree or higher with 3-5 years related experience and/or training in a shipping/warehouse capacity, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven leadership experience over multiple years as a supervisor and/or manager within a shipping/warehouse environment.

A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

Requires effective problem solving and strong communication skills, attention to detail, organization, and follow-through skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
