Position Summary: This position works in all facets of brewing, cellaring, and packaging at Fort George’s 10hL and 30Bbl systems which are located within our restaurants. Cleanliness and organization are integral parts of this role as is communication with our pub team The incumbent will be expected to be able to brew on both systems in all various styles, including, Lager, Mixed Culture, Wild Ales, Barrel Aged beers, IPA’s, and everything in between. Minor lab capabilities are expected, which include cell counts, forced vdk, and propagation of yeast and bacteria cultures. This incumbent will order raw materials and package materials for all scheduled batches. This position will maintain inventory within Ekos and perform inventory counts. This position’s responsibilities are often accompanied by various tasks assigned by the Head Brewer. This position generally has a M-F 8am-4pm schedule, but may vary based upon workload.
Essential Functions:
General
Perform wort production as needed at both 10hL and 30Bbl facilities
Perform all cellar functions at both 10hL and 30bbl facilities including yeast management
Contribute to recipe and process development
Collaboration with other breweries in-house and out-of-house
Management of raw materials: ordering, organization, storage, and inventory
Keg packaging for distribution and taprooms
Operate canning line for can packaging for distribution and taprooms
Operate bottling line for can packaging for distribution and taprooms
Cleaning and sanitation – Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Continuous learning in all facets of brewing
Monitor DO levels with Cbox at every cellar and packaging step
Work with and report any mechanical issues to the maintenance manager and/or supervisor
Perform basic lab tests: gravities, pH, forced VDK, and yeast propagation
Assist lab staff with any QC/QA needs
Participate in sensory panels
Assist FoH with maintenance and troubleshooting of draft system and cold box organization
Perform other jobs in the brewery as directed by supervisor
Assist other employees as necessary
Communication
High level of communication with leadership
Respectfulness & professionalism in all communication
Reporting gravities, package amounts, inventory receipts, counts, etc. via Slack(or the communication platform/tool the company is currently using)
Working with Sensory Coordinator on all R&D batches and new raw materials
Work closely with the pub department
Daily meeting with coworkers for the SV/LMT facilities
Attending industry functions and building key relationships with outside partners in pursuit of goals and overall mission
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Ideal Qualifications
Must be 21 years of age.
At least 3 years experience working on a brewhouse, cellar, and packaging
Ability to operate Maheen Bottling Line and Wild Goose Canning line
Ability to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and scissor lift; incumbent will need to be certified within 3 months from the date of hire on all three pieces of equipment
Basic mechanical competency
Ability to read labels on chemicals and understand SDS sheets
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with brewing, cellaring, and packaging
Must be able to adapt to frequent changes in workload and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate
Basic math and computer competency
Ability to communicate effectively in a high-noise environment
