Electronics Manufacturing Technician

Scope: The focus of the Electronics Manufacturing Technician will be on the technical aspects of manufacturing our high-tech sensing products. This includes quality control, technical coordination with contract manufacturers and key vendors, design-for-manufacture commentary of new designs, and continuous improvement of our products for cost, performance, and quality.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Supports manufacturing through documentation. Assembles and maintains bills of material that are efficiently transferable to production personnel and contractors. Creates assembly and test procedures that can be easily transferred to test personnel.

Supports manufacturing and procurement through technical coordination with vendors. Ensures that product delivered by vendors is within specification and well documented. Handles any vendor-sourced corrective measures.

Supports quality efforts. Monitors production yields for potential issues. Creates periodic reports analyzing trends. Performs failure analysis of returned units.

Supports product assembly when needed. Can perform basic and advanced assembly skills when needed for product orders. Includes surface-mount and through-hole soldering, optical cable splicing and termination, and delicate physical assembly.

Supports product development by focusing on ease of assembly, quality, and cost conscious design techniques.

Documents all work in a professional manner so that similarly qualified engineers can understand what was done, why, and how to reproduce it. Adheres to document control policies and processes.

Accepts and meets deadlines: project and customer-driven deliverables and deadlines

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Experience with soldering, building basic electronic circuits and controls, a basic understanding of electronics, and basic computer skills.

Must be willing and able to be trained in the use of all types of electronic test and measurement equipment including oscilloscopes, DVMs, signal generators, and microscopes. (Knowledge and experience a plus.)

Must be willing and able to be trained in the understanding of electrical circuits and reading schematics. (Knowledge and experience a plus.)

Must have good communications skills, organizational skills, and be a team player.

The ability to work in both supervised and unsupervised situations is critical. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic and ability to work cooperatively with other staff members while upholding high standards of professional conduct.

Must also be willing and able to be trained in fiber optics, including learning how to operate and maintain fiber-optic fusion splicing equipment as well as other optical equipment such as optical power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, and optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs).

Fiber-Optics experience is a plus.

Test, debug, and root cause failure analysis skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Able to articulately express and comprehend concepts, directives, etc., written and spoken, in English.

Ability to pass background investigation and drug screening.
