DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Program and operate CNC machines , such as circular saws, band saws, multiple blade sawing machines, scroll saws, ripsaws, equalizer saws, power saws and crosscut sawing machines.

2. Inspects stock for imperfections and estimates grade or quality of stock or workpiece.

3. Plans action first by studying a work order to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and performing the required set up.

4. Programs machinery by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, and geometry.

5. Loads or unloads material or work piece into CNC machinery and stacks product as necessary

6. Responsible for operating and performing routine maintenance on CNC machines.

7. Work on a production line with consistent speed and accuracy and ensure that production requirements and standards are met consistently

8. Work cooperatively with the production team to meet quotas and goals

9. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to manufacture products as required.

10. Sorts manufacturing materials or products

11. Counts, sorts, and stacks finished workpieces and disposes of waste material.

12. Starts and observes CNC machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required

13. In-process inspection is expected to be performed by the CNC Machining Operator.

14. May operate forklift and other machinery to move product within the shop.

15. Cleans work area daily including but not limited to:

15.1. Return tools and supplies in their proper place.

15.2. Clean the assigned machines with company provided tools.

15.3. Cleans debris from work area and stores it in the appropriate areas, including recycling bins.

15.4. Organizes unused material, tools and equipment for the next use in the appropriate area

16. Obeys all safety rules and regulations, which may include:

16.1. Wearing safety goggles while on the shop floor.

16.2. Wearing ear plugs while on the shop floor.

16.3. Wearing foot protection (steel toed shoes) while on the shop floor.

17. Reports immediately to the Production Manager and/or Director of Operations any unsafe or hazardous conditions.

EDUCATION:

1. Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Preferred: None.

EXPERIENCE:

2.1. Required: A minimum of one (1) year experience as a CNC Machining Operator.

2.2. Preferred: Two (2) or more years of experience as a CNC Machining Operator in the lumber industry.

3. LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

3.1. Required: None.

3.2. Preferred: OHSA safety certification.

4. PHYSICAL:

4.1. Body Positions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required stand and/or walk for long periods of time while completing other duties and responsibilities.

4.2. Body Movements: The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of his/her hands to finger, handle, and feel objects such as computer equipment, small and large building products items. The ability to bend the body, to reach for objects, and to crouch when needed are also required.

4.3. Body Senses: The employee must have command of all five senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

4.4. Strength: The employee must have the ability to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds.

5. MENTAL:

5.1 Mathematics: Must be able to do basic mathematical calculations.

5.2 Language: Must be able to communicate effectively in English (and preferably also in Spanish) both verbally and in writing well enough to read reports, work orders, process instructions and other paperwork.

5.3 Mechanical: Must be able to understand the capabilities and limitations of PTP tools, equipment and machines.

5.4 Spatial: Must have the basic ability to read reports, work orders, manifests, and invoices.

6. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

6.1. Ability to plan cutting/manufacturing operations by interpreting and understanding the specifics of each work order.

6.2. Configures CNC machines, tool set up and processes by programming or otherwise entering instructions to perform the work in the proper sequence.

6.3. Loading and unloading lumber, plywood and OSB to be cut/fabricated and utilizing precision measuring tools to ensure products are within specified tolerances.

6.4. The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a CNC machine to exact cutting positions.

6.5. The ability to quickly move hand(s) together with arm(s) to grasp, manipulate, or stack/load objects.

6.6. The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

6.7. Maintain and operate CNC machines for each job ensuring high precision cutting and manufacturing.
