Romano Law, PC is a full-service family law and criminal defense firm providing services throughout Oregon and is seeking an additional full-time or part-time paralegal/legal assistant to add to our team. We currently have an office located in Portland and this position can be on-site at our Portland office, remote or a hybrid of both. However, you will need to work from the Portland office at least one time per week in order to check mail (on rotation with other staff).
This position requires that the applicant be able to independently draft legal documents, pleadings and letters, be detail oriented, organized and be familiar with litigation procedures and rules. The applicant should have good client skills and pleasant professional demeanor, be able to organize and prioritize work, as well as be reliable with good attendance and qualified to be licensed and bonded as a notary.
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 recent years of experience in the legal field; experience in family law (divorce/custody) required (criminal defense a plus)
Knowledge of current Oregon court rules (including SLRs, ORCPs & UTCRs)
Proficiency in eFiling in Oregon circuit courts
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PDF
Must be highly detailed and organized, even within a fast-paced environment
Must be comfortable with multi-tasking
Ability to maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times
Ability to work in a self-motivated, efficient, and organized manner
Ability to work independently while also being able to accept verbal work assignments
Dependable transportation and a valid driver's license for running errands
Oregon Notary or ability to become an Oregon Notary
Major duties include:
Assist attorneys and lead paralegal as needed.
Coordinating witnesses and experts.
Trial and hearing preparation with attorneys and other office staff.
Drafting of legal documents (pleadings, letters, memos, subpoenas, etc).
Complete various research tasks in a timely fashion.
Records maintenance and filing.
Running various errands when necessary (including to various courthouses and local jails).
Gathering, organizing & distributing discovery.
Hours are 8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday (with a flexible 1-hour lunch).
Although this position is mostly a remote position allowing you to work from home, you will need to travel within the Beaverton & Portland metro area weekly for errands. You will also need to work out of our Portland office a few times per week.
You must have a good dependable computer with high-speed internet and a good quality telephone in order to work from home (all at your own expenses). However, you would be more than welcome to work out the Portland office with a computer, printer, scanner and telephone provided by our office (our offices have been fully functioning on-site prior to COVID).
Pay is depending on experience, but is between $36/hour - $40/hour, DOE
