Wages

A first year firefighter’s starting wage is $31.05/hr for first 40 hours, however firefighters with previous experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.

What to Expect

● Fire season typically runs from June through September, but that is always subject to

change.

● Firefighting is strenuous work. This includes large amounts of hiking, so being in good

physical condition is highly recommended.

● Being a part of a wildland fire crew means all members must have a quick response time

as we have a 2 hour window to assemble and deploy.

● After we receive a call, it is typical to be gone for 2-4 weeks, so preparing for this leave

beforehand is recommended.

● As wildland firefighters we have the opportunity to travel to beautiful and remote areas.

● Be prepared to work 12-16 hour shifts as 100 hour weeks are common.
