SUMMARY

The position of Cutting Machine Operator is responsible for operating the Zünd cutting machine to efficiently cut out patterned pieces of fabric, leather, and other materials. This position is a Monday through Friday, day shift, 8 hours, no weekends, in an enclosed warehouse (with heat and air conditioning). We are a short distance from the TriMet 56 Bus Line (Stop ID 5162) and about 2.3 miles from the Central Beaverton Max Station. While we would love to find a candidate with Zund experience, we are also willing to train the right candidate with the optimal previous experience. See more details below.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Uses the Zünd automated cutting machine to efficiently batch cut-out pattern pieces from different fabrics, leather, and other materials, and determines appropriate cutting tool functions for materials.

Collect, organize, and transfer cut pieces to appropriate locations per work order instructions. Operate machinery with a high attention to detail and continual quality control for efficient and cost-effective utilization.

Utilizes Zünd queue to keep a continuous flow of orders moving on the machine to keep the machine as efficient as possible; communicates if there are any errors in the queue or if the queue is running low; identifies and selects correct materials for work orders; efficiently picks and returns materials; and communicates any missing or insufficient amounts of material to complete orders.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities associated with this position are:

Load and unload materials, ensuring proper alignment and tension.

Set up and calibrate cutting parameters based on job requirements.

Monitor machine performance, troubleshoot issues, and adjust as necessary.

Inspect cut materials for quality and accuracy.

Manage workflow to meet production schedules and collaborate with the team to keep jobs moving.

Gain proficiency with the material library and understand material characteristics (such as weave and twill patterns, stretch paths, patterns, and leather defects).

Perform routine maintenance on the machine for optimal functionality, maintain a clean and organized work environment, follow safety protocols, and assist in maintaining cleanliness in the cutting and materials storage areas.

Keep detailed records of job specifications, materials used, and machine maintenance.

Understand the basics of hand-cutting and provide coverage with hand-cutting as needed.

Understand the basics of the laser machines and provide coverage on the laser machines as needed.

Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a larger team while maintaining focus and being able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with continuous interruptions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE

1 to 2 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working at/in/for: Experience working with similar fabric cutting machines or 3-axis CNC machines is ideal. Working knowledge of various fabrics, leathers, and other textiles is ideal, but not required.
