Exotic Pet Clinic Seeking Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)

We see rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and other rodents, mini pigs, reptiles, birds, amphibians, marsupials, ferrets and even fish.

We are a privately owned, busy and growing exotics vet practice located in Southwest Portland on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway. Our main focus is progressive veterinary medicine, top quality patient care, teamwork, and providing superior customer service. We are open Tuesday through Saturday and closed on Sundays and Mondays. Our ideal candidates are hard working, can work with minimal direction after training, take directions well, be a self-starter, able to work weekends and evenings, and have a lot of enthusiasm helping the team care for pets and their people.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Certified Veterinary Technician to join our team. As a CVT, you will play a crucial role in providing quality care to our animal patients. Your responsibilities will include assisting veterinarians during examinations and surgeries, performing laboratory tests, administering medications, and providing general animal care.

Duties:

- Assist veterinarian in medical procedures using proper restraint; know how to safely restrain fractious patients

- Assist veterinarian in surgical procedures using proper aseptic technique - maintain and use equipment such as IDEXX Lasercyte and autoclave

- Perform routine laboratory procedures and analyses in hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology

- Prepare samples for outside laboratory analysis

- Monitor patients under anesthesia - induce anesthesia and intubate patient

-Administer treatments and injections following the instructions of a doctor or a treatment form

- Initiate emergency procedures

- Maintain pharmacy records, controlled drug records, anesthesia, fecal, and heartworm test logs

- Enter medical treatments performed under the direction of the veterinarian, into the medical record appropriately by the end of the day. Time and location of each treatment, vaccine or other agent as directed by a veterinarian must be accurately entered into the record

- Take radiographs

- Take vital signs of animals including temperature, pulse, and respiration

- Perform dental cleanings

- Perform and analyze skin and ear cytology

- Perform catheterization - urinary and venous

- Complete ear cleanings and nail trims

- Perform other duties as assigned

-Participate in daily cleaning and sanitizing of clinic

Qualifications:

- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) required

- 3+ years working as a Certified Veterinary Technician is highly desirable

- Strong knowledge of animal physiology, husbandry, and care

- Proficiency in animal restraint techniques and handling exotic animals of all types

- Familiarity with laboratory procedures and aseptic technique

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate pet owners effectively

- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
