The team delivers manual rates to brokers, sales teams, and underwriting partners across multiple products and platforms in support of UUS growth strategy and objectives. The team will also support the sold case submission process.This role will establish collaborative partnerships with key business partners to ensure that rate delivery and submissions meet the needs of all internal and external stakeholders.In the day to day operations of the team, the Manager will ensure that service standards, consistency, and quality of rate delivery are within acceptable ranges, proactively addressing trends to achieve overall objectives.The Manager will be accountable for, recruiting, hiring, retention and development of a high performing team and ensure effective training of team members within the organization. The manager will effectively address performance concerns, and create an engaging, high performing client first culture.This position will support and lead strategic projects which will optimize Unum’s position to meet diverse and changing marketplace needs for the organization and its partner operational areas.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesTalent Management

Recruit, hire, and ensure effective training in support of overall success

Operational Leadership

Ensure team meets required standards for quotes and submissions; monitor and make adjustments to provide partners with high quality, consistent and predictable delivery.

Collaborate with business partners to drive business efficiency in the quote and submission process, facilitate a feedback/adjustment model, develop and implement strategic initiatives that improve productivity, operational efficiency, quality and consistency in overall rate delivery.

Demonstrate alignment of shared objectives and partnership/ advocacy for field offices by setting a pace and appropriate tone of urgency as well as a desire to win.

Effectively supports and aligns their team to the appropriate field partner, office, region based on needs and to ensure a cohesive, strong, and successful partnerships.

Achieve a high level of personal credibility with Sales and Underwriting teams, Client Management and Brokers.

Collaborate with up and downstream operations to ensure overall achievement of each operation’s business goals.

Effectively deliver results by making sound business and risk decisions in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities.

Communicate and build support for corporate mission and objectives.

Continuous Improvement

Monitor marketplace trends and partner with operational areas to effectively adapt to change and thereby retain a competitive advantage.

Analyze, drive and implement process improvements centered on ease of doing business, service excellence, training and knowledge management.

May perform other duties as assigned

Job Specifications

Four-year degree, with preference to 3-5 years of increasing responsibility of management experience in a high production/high transaction operation.

Strong knowledge of the insurance business, Unum’s product offerings, corresponding workflow processes, risk concepts and service model offerings.

Strong understanding of risk management principles and demonstrated ability to leverage risk assessment to make effective decisions.

Ability to cultivate and maintain an effective network of business partnerships to leverage optimal outcomes.

Credibility with the field, underwriting and operational partners.

Ability to fluidly operate and guide teams in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities.

Proven ability to think strategically and act tactically.

Demonstrated ability to have command and control over operational metrics/indicators/trends, and the ability to take action to deliver key business objectives.

Seasoned leadership skills with a proven ability to develop strong team engagement.

Proven ability to develop and manage a talent pipeline within the organization.

Demonstrated ability to lead and manage operations with multi-site/virtual teams.

Strong interpersonal, collaboration, persuasion, communication and negotiation skills – both written and verbal.

Understanding of the external market.

Position may require travel as needed.

Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.$75,500.00-$142,700.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
