DESCRIPTION

This position serves as the classroom teacher in a blended 2nd-3rd grade classroom. Classroom teachers create a flexible program favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability. We’re seeking a passionate educator who embraces the Project Approach model and is committed to fostering social-emotional learning (SEL) through Positive Discipline. In our dynamic classroom environment, you’ll inspire students to engage in hands-on Projects that spark curiosity and creativity, while also promoting a positive, respectful atmosphere.

This is a full-time, salaried, elementary classroom teaching position that starts immediately. The position is with an independent public charter school operating in the Portland Public School District. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned:

Provides learning experiences and teaches the course of study using the Project Approach methodology and incorporating all applicable state and district grade-level benchmarks and standards.

Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for instruction of students with a wide range of academic, physical, and emotional maturity.

Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students.

Exhibits cultural competency and commitment to educational equity to ensure that student race, ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, zip code, or language of origin are not predictive of achievement outcomes.

Employs the fundamental concepts and skills of Positive Discipline in the Classroom to establish and maintain standards of classroom control required to achieve effective participation in all activities.

Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records.

Provides appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet school, District, and Department of Education goals and objectives.

Communicates with parents through a variety of means.

Participates in regularly scheduled parent conferences to discuss the individual student's progress and interpret the school program.

Identifies student needs and cooperates with other staff members in assessing and helping students solve behavior and learning challenges.

Creates an effective environment for learning.

Maintains professional competence through appropriate in-service education activities and classes.

Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrators to develop the method by which s/he will be evaluated.

Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.

Participates in school activities and committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED CREDENTIAL

Valid current Oregon teaching license authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Master’s Degree preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

A minimum of one year of teaching experience in an elementary classroom is preferred.
