Overview of Position:

The Assistant Director of Information Technology provides leadership to the district Information Technology (IT) staff, helping to coordinate on-site IT staff and associated communication. The Assistant Director develops systems and implements interoperability frameworks to allow systems to work together. The Assistant Director helps in the maintenance and management of the district’s technology systems. The Assistant Director helps to refine and communicate technology-related policy and guidelines and performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities/Duties:

In fulfillment of the role, the Assistant Director of Information Technology:

Determines and maintains interoperability frameworks between various systems containing student, staff, school, district, facility and other information.

Coordinates with ESD and other third-party systems and personnel regarding data systems and associated interoperability.

Works with the entire IT staff to resolve end-user functionality concerns and to provide as-needed training opportunities.

Works with various stakeholder groups to determine system needs.

Assists with the configuration and maintenance of operational systems – phones, intercoms, video monitoring, etc.

Advises the Director of IT of upcoming needs and developments that may dictate additional projects.

Ensures security and confidentiality issues are adequately addressed as systems are designed and implemented, including appropriate technological best practices and adherence to district policies.

Acts as consulting advisor to the Director of IT in all aspects of the district’s technology and technology-related systems.

Work with IT staff to provide off-hours emergency monitoring and response of technology systems.

Fulfill the responsibilities of the Director of IT in their absence.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Develops software or systems using programming languages such as PowerShell, SQL, PHP, JavaScript, HTML, JavaScript, etc.;

Effective oral and written communication skills;

Displays competency with administrative and instructional applications of technology;

Uses multimedia equipment and applications, basic software applications and common operating systems;

Demonstrates a working knowledge of hardware components and their functions;

Possesses the ability to implement new technologies;

Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality of all district information;

Ability to work harmoniously with others and demonstrate positive conflict resolution skills;

Ability to collaborate and use initiative and judgment in accomplishing tasks;

Ability to take responsibility for professional learning and maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in development activities;

Must have physical and mental attributes sufficient to perform essential functions and be a contributing member of the team.

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience with enterprise systems administration practices and ecosystems such as Microsoft Azure, Active Directory, Intune, and related; VMware virtualization and high-availability; server, network, and datacenter hardware; network-attached storage; and comprehensive backup strategies and implementations.

Experience in the K-12 instructional application of technology.

Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

Educational Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university, or equivalent

Experience and/or training in software development and maintenance.

Teaching or other school-related job experience desired.

Physical Demands of Position:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. Manual dexterity and coordination are required for less than 50% of the work, while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator and standard office equipment. May need to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted on occasion.
