PRIMARY PURPOSE

Project Youth+ is a nonprofit organization in Southern Oregon dedicated to increasing access to opportunities, removing barriers and preparing low-income, first generation and underrepresented youth to thrive in school, college and careers. As a direct grantee of the Oregon IDA (Individual Development Account) Initiative (https://oregonidainitiative.org/), the +Account (IDA) Program provides the opportunity for youth to save towards a specific goal, earn matching funds, and successfully attain an asset.

Our +Account Program Specialist will be responsible for working with students, parents, and partner organizations under the direction of our +Account Program Director to process applications, follow up on incomplete paperwork, conduct student and parent orientations, maintain regular contact with participants, monitor completion of requirements, update records in a timely and accurate manner, and assist participants in completing requirements necessary to access funds. The +Account Program Specialist will be responsible for working with all aspects of the +Account Program and will be responsible for program quality and performance by carrying out the responsibilities of the position as defined below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program administration (50%)

Assist potentially eligible youth, young adults, and their families with accurate and timely submission of +Account applications including all required household financial documentation.

Review applications submitted for completion and accuracy, assist applicants and families with the process of securing missing information, and submit completed applications for approval.

Provide monthly case management to ensure participants are depositing regularly into their savings account and making progress on their goals. Communication with staff and students is key.

Maintain and update participant files and work with Outcome Tracker database for all participant contacts and manage program documents in a timely, accurate and confidential manner.

Ensure the timely opening of custodial savings accounts in an authorized bank branch.

Review Check Requests for completion and eligibility, assist participants with the process of securing missing documentation, and submit requests to the +Account Program Director for approval and processing.

Student case management services (40%)

Conduct orientation meetings with participants to provide them with an overview of program requirements.

Develop and manage effective working relationships with +Account participants, their families and schools, and our community partners.

Conduct meetings with participants annually to develop a budget and spending plan for their account, assist them in planning their best path that meets their goals and needs, and providing financial aid and scholarship support to ensure they are financially prepared.

Attend conferences and meetings to increase knowledge of effective financial education, resiliency development, college preparation, and related topics.

Other Duties (10%)

Complete other duties and activities as assigned, including providing regularly scheduled outreach services to one or more secondary schools.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

An associate’s degree and two years of experience or equivalent experience and education is preferred.

Extremely strong organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Creativity, flexibility, time management, and goal setting are essential to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Demonstrated ability to use MS Office suite, especially Excel.

Flexibility in work schedule, including ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Strong initiative, problem solving, and interpersonal relationship skills. Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a high performance team.

Experience working in racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.

Knowledge of federal and state financial aid types and processes are a bonus.

Bilingual and/or bicultural skills and experience are a plus.

COMPENSATION

This is a part-time, hourly position with a minimum guarantee of 20 hours per week at $22.75 to $25.40 per hour depending on experience with paid sick, vacation and holiday time as well as mileage reimbursement. Depending on the needs of Project Youth+, this could become a full-time, salaried position with a benefits package that includes paid vacation and holidays, medical/dental (after successful completion of a 60-day probationary period). Also included: sick leave, HRA reimbursement, professional development support, transportation mileage reimbursement and 401K Retirement Plan after one year of employment.
