Camp Host Position Summary

Willow-Witt Ranch is a 445-acre gem in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument near Ashland, Oregon. The seasonal Camp Host is in charge of and responsible for the smooth operation our forested campground. The Camp Host position is one of hospitality, responsibility, and attention to detail.

The Camp Host is the visible and positive representative of Willow-Witt Ranch, concierge for the Monument and area attractions, guide for those new to camping, emergency contact, and is responsible for keeping the campground tidy and running smoothly. The Camp Host is NOT a personal cleaner for guests at the Campground.

Core accountabilities

Greet, welcome and orient guests.

Make guests aware of and enforce rules and regulations of the Campground.

This position requires weekend and evening work.

Maintain emergency contact for guests and possibly for visitors

Be aware of dangerous conditions.

Monitor premises for needed repairs.

Answer guests’ questions about the property, facilities, and nearby attractions.

Maintain the Cookhouse and Bathhouse in clean and inviting order. This includes daily cleaning and disinfecting of both facilities. Guests are responsible for washing and putting away dishes their family uses and for picking up after themselves.

Change all linens and thoroughly clean and disinfect Wall Tents between guests.

Patrol the Campground and pick up litter and trash.

Remove all trash, food scraps, and ‘left’ items from the Campground daily.

Reports Directly to Property Owner and Director of Operations

This is a full-time position at $16/hour plus the use of a furnished Wall Tent for the season. This position requires weekend and evening work.

The position begins as soon as possible and ends mid-November 2024. Priority will be given to applications received by June 1, 2024.

This position is covered by Workers Compensation Insurance and accrues sick time, paid time off, overtime differential, and paid vacation to be used within a year. This position does not include health insurance coverage.

Necessary qualifications

This is a drug-free workplace. There is no smoking or vaping allowed on the property.

Must pass a criminal background check.

Maintain a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

This is a position for someone comfortable living in a remote setting, possibly with no one else around in a forested atmosphere.

There is no electricity or Wi-Fi at the Campground and cell service is spotty. Electricity and WI-FI is available at the farm 1/4 mile away.

Host must maintain presence in the campground during work hours to greet and assist overnight guests.

This position requires the physical ability to use stairs, operate mechanical and some power equipment after thorough training, walk on uneven surfaces, carry bags, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities:

Guest Relations

Interact with guests in a friendly, positive, and approachable manner. Check in with guests periodically about their experience.

Keep up to date about when guests’ arrivals and departures. Check guests in and out. Be available for late check-ins.

Communicate with guests about campground rules and amenities. Educate and empower guests about the campground and use of facilities, including hand-washing dishes, starting a fire, and how to deal with food scraps, and recycling, guest information book, woodstoves, food storage, parking, and evacuation. Respond to guests' questions and needs.

Be available in case of emergencies and inform guests of evacuation procedures.

Interact and assist with guests or visitors as needed at the farm, Farm Store, and the garden.

Cleaning & Upkeep

Clean common areas daily and as needed.

Clean bathrooms including showers, sinks, toilets, and floors. Stock toilet paper and towels.

Clean cookhouse, including sinks, drain boards, tables, chairs, stoves, and cupboards as needed. Be sure the kitchen is kept orderly throughout the day, and supplies are stocked and available.

Remove recycling, trash, and food scraps to central locations daily.

Change and clean wall tents after guests check out. Change bed linens, clean, sanitize, and restock supplies.

Monitor consumables such as paper products, soap, firewood, kitchen staples, and restock as needed. Order supplies with staff as needed.

Monitor safety and functionality of facilities and the landscape and notify other staff of any issues or needed repairs.

Monitor propane levels at campground.

Keep first aid kits and epi-pen stocked, and AED in working condition.

Maintain walking paths and keep clear of small brush and tripping hazards.

Organize and put away furniture (tables & chairs) in designated area after events.

Monitor linens and make note of stains, holes, or missing items and report to management. Maintain clear organization of linens in designated boxes. Create labels as needed.

Weddings & Events

The campground is sometimes rented as a wedding or event venue from noon Friday through 11:00 Monday.

Make sure facilities are adequately stocked. Assist staff with set up and take down of rentals for weddings and events.

Assist with parking.

The camp host is the point person for campground needs and questions during the event

Assist with rule enforcement when appropriate. Backup assistance will be available.

Other duties

Keep inventory of Cookhouse supplies and put away at end of season.

Attend weekly all-staff meetings.

The Camp Host may be asked to assist at the farm if there are no guests at the campground.
