Position Summary

The Dean provides leadership in teaching, learning, and service by focusing on the individual and modeling respect, dignity, and integrity. Responsible for the direction and coordination of instructional department programs and/or college-wide self-support activities. Provides leadership in the development of college and departmental goals and objectives, ensuring the educational philosophy and institutional vision, mission and long- and short-range goals of the college are met. Provides leadership for fiscal planning, and budget and grant administration to accomplish goals within established budget processes for areas of responsibility. Represents the college in the community and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with state and local agencies. Responsible for maintaining knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, collective bargaining procedures, and college policies and procedures.

Compensation

This is a Exempt position in the Student Learning & Success department. Starting compensation will be based on Grade N of the 23-24 salary schedule, in accordance with initial placement per the current Management, Administrative, and Confidential Employee Handbook. Consideration will be given to related experience and educational achievement. Exempt positions are renewed on an annual basis at the discretion of the College President.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education – A Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum development, or directly related field is required.

Experience – Five years of increasingly responsible experience in teaching, curriculum development, educational administration, program planning/ development, and personnel management with exposure to budgeting is required.

Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.

Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).

Preferred Qualifications

PhD preferred.

Experience in an educational setting, including instructional supervision strongly preferred.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Core Competencies)

Knowledge – Knowledge of career and technical education content areas, academic/transfer content areas, college readiness, and andragogy and current issues. Must also know and understand the mission and functions of a multi-campus comprehensive community college; strategic planning and budget processes; faculty and staff evaluation and professional development; computer applications; the role of a regional comprehensive community college in the economic, social, and cultural fabric of the community. A sophisticated working-knowledge of the Faculty Contract, Classified Contract, and in dealing with the Faculty and Classified collective bargaining contracts and their representatives. These matters include, but are not limited to; workload issues, overloads/overtime, benefits, working conditions, and rights and responsibilities of faculty and the College.

Skills – Strong verbal and written communication skills; conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills; listening skills; current and relevant computer skills; budgeting skills; leadership and supervisory skills; and planning and organizational skills.

Abilities – Understand, apply, and demonstrate the College’s core leadership competencies. Lead with collaborative vision and practical perspective; work in a team environment with diverse populations; collaborate with college and community constituents; demonstrate highly effective interpersonal relationships, one-on-one, and as a team member; be sensitive to students, staff and faculty; be compassionate and caring; communicate effectively and respectfully at all levels; motivate and inspire; supervise, train, and develop staff; operate standard office equipment. Pass a criminal background check.

Other Requirements

For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.

This position functions as an in-person work arrangement, working on-campus with either a set schedule or flexibility depending on operational needs.

Physical Demands

The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with qualified disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for about 25% of the daily work period which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment or driving. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials such as books, files, etc. up to 5 pounds daily and 5-25 pounds rarely. This position may be required to sit for long periods of time in meetings or driving. Requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office environment. Participation in outdoor student events may be required.
