Job Title: Kitchen Assistant/Housekeeping
Seasonal: 5/1/24-10/31/24
Department: Overnight Camp
Reports To: Kitchen Manager
$15-$19/hour based on experience
POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a seasonal position at YMCA Camp DeBoer, a camp and conference center located at beautiful Lake of the Woods. The applicant will assist the Head Cook in preparing and serving nutritious meals to all participants as well as maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the camp facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist in the daily operations of the camp food service.
Assist in the preparation of food as the menu indicates.
Set up food, supplies, and utensils for dining hall distribution.
Store food and leftovers at proper temperature.
2. Assist in routine sanitation of the kitchen and related equipment.
Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas.
Wash all dishes, serving and preparation equipment, and utensils according to regulated washing methods and temperatures.
Reduce waste, reuse items, and recycle as indicated through the camp’s procedures.
3. Perform janitorial and general maintenance duties
Sweep, scrub, clean floors, wash windows and screens, put up and take down screens and storm windows.
Keep shower houses and main lodge bathrooms stocked and clean on a daily basis.
Dispose of trash and waste.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
Desire to work in a food service setting preferred.
Knowledge of food preparation and serving, storage of food and dishwashing procedures preferred.
Must successfully pass criminal background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Physical ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior.
Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more).
Ability to safely and properly use kitchen equipment.
Ability to provide first aid and to assist campers and staff in an emergency.
COMPENSATION
$15-$19/hour based on experience
