We are a small landscaping company seeking a new member for our crew. We are looking for someone who has a strong interest in horticulture and/or landscape construction and enjoys manual labor. Some experience in landscaping or a related field is preferred, but more importantly, we want a reliable, hard-working, self-motivated, honest person who is eager to do some good work as part of our crew.
Our work is varied and includes everything from fine and fussy gardening to hard labor. We work in residential gardens and privately owned land. We design, install and maintain a variety of different styles of garden. The majority of our work is caring for, maintaining and making alterations to existing gardens. Many of our clients hire us because they trust our knowledge of plants. But our work addresses the entire garden, from irrigation systems to hardscapes to outdoor lighting. We practice plant specific care, therefore our new crew member will be expected to quickly develop a sound knowledge of plants. We follow organic principles and are advocates for edible, native and drought tolerant plants. However we do cater to our individual clients’ needs and preferences. Some of our rural clients have woodland, pasture and natural areas that fall under our care.
Most years we take on one or more large design/installation projects, often in the summer. This year our small crew is feeling a bit overwhelmed with our growing client list, so we are focusing on giving good care to our existing clients. We will mostly be doing garden maintenance, along with a string of small 1-4 day projects.
We work 4 days per week (Mon-Thu) throughout the year and our work day is of variable length. Spring and early summer are our busiest times, meaning often longer days. Our start and end times vary according to season and workload. Starting pay and subsequent pay raises are determined entirely upon job performance. Employees are expected to provide some of their own gear, such as appropriate clothing, gloves, boots, pruners, and to be consistently punctual.
Applicants to this position should be prepared to do physically demanding work but will also be expected to use their intelligence to focus on the job at hand. A valid, clean driver’s license is required. You will be expected to use hand tools, power tools and ladders. There will be some heavy lifting and moving of materials. You should strive to do quality work in an efficient manner, and to gain the skills needed to do our work effectively. The pay rate is directly linked to this. Our crew take pride in our work and enjoy doing what we do. We hope to find someone who feels the same way.
To apply please include your resume and an introductory letter stating your interest in and suitability for this position. We will contact suitable candidates for an interview, during which we can discuss terms and expectations. Following that, a one month trial period allows both parties to consider whether to continue working together.
Thank you for your interest!
