Chicken Crossing is looking for an experienced cook to join our crew.

Who we are: At Chicken Crossing we try to do things differently. We pay a thriving wage and focus on being a mindfully communicative and supportive workplace. Abusive customers? Not tolerated. Need a mental health day? Trust me, we all do. Physically ill? Stay your ass at home. You won't find any Chefs White or Ramsey wannabes here, you will be treated with, at a bare minimum, the basic dignity and respect we all deserve. The 2 managing owners have nearly 50 years of combined culinary experience that we bring fully to bear. We're lifelong learners and would hope you have a similar drive to constantly improve yourself and your skills.

Our food: In a word, unique. We culture our own buttermilk and ferment our own pickles with grape leaves from the vine on our deck we call Gilbert. We utilize 99% of our produce, make all of our sauces, pickles, and spice mixes in house, hand cut fries, slaw, and chicken daily, and focus on reducing waste. Our flour is from Junction City and one of our sandwiches tastes like an Oregon wildfire.

Who you are: A cook with at least 3 years of experience in fast paced kitchens. Leadership experience and the ambition to grow into a managerial role desired. We would hope the next employee we hire would be curious, ready to work hard, and able to jump right in.

What to expect: The first 6 weeks would be only 15-20 hours, but will be full time for at least July and August. We are currently open Wed-Sun 12-7p with generally a <30 minute close and an hour or so of prep starting around 11. We're hoping to soon expand our hours of operation, as well as expand into retail spaces and multiple locations so there is potential to get in on the ground floor of something that will be big. We set a high standard for ourselves and we extend that to all of our employees. That includes breaks, which we will firmly insist you take. That being said, our menu creates a smooth workflow, we've got our recipes measured out to grams, and we're collaborative and eager to hear your input. Like many kitchens, the space is pretty tight and can get hot in the summer but that is alleviated by our AC unit. We're understanding and working right alongside you to ensure no one has more than they can bear.

All this to be said, while this job can be difficult at times, it is incredibly rewarding to see the smile on somebody's face who realizes they just had the best food Eugene has to offer. Come join us in creating that experience.
